Welcome to the first episode of the Electric Dreams Podcast!

Hi, it’s Steve from Witness Prophecies, and, along with fellow GSM host, Wayne Henderson, I’m pleased to introduce you to our new podcast on Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams! Electric Dreams is a British science fiction television anthology series based on the works of Philip K. Dick. The series premiered on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom and on STAN in Australia on September 17 and 18 2017.

The Hood Maker

Does the adaption of Philip K. Dick’s short stories make for an interesting hour of television?  This first episode, titled ‘The Hood Maker’, is a fantastic introduction to the sorts of stories Electric Dreams will be presenting over the series. It’s full of the visual aesthetic that Dick’s writing pioneered and it’s also an hour that’s accessible, presenting concepts that aren’t quite as ‘out there’ as some that are likely to follow.

Set in a dystopian future where telepaths – derogatorily referred to as ‘teeps’ – have emerged in human society, the story starts with the Union on a knife-edge. With an ‘anti-immunity’ bill passed, and teeps being hired to work for the police force, the ‘normals’ are up in arms trying to defend their right to privacy. They see the teeps being officialised as an Orwellian nightmare, where the sanctity of their mind is no longer their own.
