Thank you for joining us in this 47th installment of Arrow Squad! We’re covering Arrow season 3 episode 17 entitled “Suicidal Tendencies”, which originally aired on March 25, 2015. As far as appropriately titled episodes go, this one seems to take the prize. Most of our beloved (and not so beloved) characters revealed an innate reaction to protect those around them, in turn putting themselves in danger. But sacrificing oneself is one thing. It is another to intentionally put oneself in harms way in the hope that this final act will be the end of the line. Read more…

AS 46 – S3E16 – The Offer

Season 3 Episode 16 of Arrow entitled “The Offer” picked up right where episode 15 left off – with Ra’s Al Ghul asking Oliver to take his place. We discussed on the podcast how similar this scenario is to the tale on Princess Bride, in which Westley becomes the Dread Pirate Roberts in a long line of successors. It’s interesting to consider the parallel between Ra’s Al Ghul commanding the League of Assassins versus the Pirate Roberts commanding a fleet of pirates, because the same undoubtedly holds true; to an extent, an image must be maintained, and yet to another extent, the missions and objectives invariably change simply due to leadership. As Ra’s Al Ghul, Oliver would have tremendous power. But can that power actually be wielded to Oliver’s will, or does that power have a will of it’s own? Read more…

All three hosts are attending and want to get others on board as well. We are well aware that many of our listeners and community members already attend on a regular basis, so if you have additional comments about attending DragonCon, please post them in our Facebook group or in the comments section of this post. In this edition of Arrow Squad, The Mighty Tritan Alliance discusses season 3 episode 15 of Arrow entitled “Nanda Parbat.” We also continue to fight over what to call our new hosting trio. As a semi-frequent guest host, I, Miss Ice, have officially been inducted as an Arrow Squad host! It is very exciting and such a great honor and privilege to discuss Arrow week-to-week with Brian (The Shadow) and Kevin (Podcast Overlord). Read more…

AS42 – S3E14 – The Return

Welcome Arrow Squad! In the appropriately titled episode “The Return”, season 3 episode 14 of Arrow saw the return of old characters, including Tommy Merlyn from season 1 and, more notoriously, season 2’s big bad Slade “Deathstroke” Wilson. The episode title probably also refers to Oliver returning to Lian Yu in the present, and returning to Starling City in his flashbacks. There is just a lot of returning going on! While Slade Wilson causes problems for the Quintessential Queens on Lian Yu, Tommy proves to be very big-brotherly to a wayward Thea in Starling City (which we get to see because Olvier has added creepy stalker to his skillset). Welcome back to Arrow Squad! This is Miss Ice filling in for Podcast Overlord as he fights his way out from the snow shavings I sent his way. It was my plan all along, really, to be able to discuss this episode of Arrow with THE SHADOW. And discuss we did! The Shadow might be traveling, but Podcast Overlord and Miss Ice have got you covered! In this week’s installment of Arrow Squad, we dive into episode 12 of season 3 entitled, “Uprising.” What does a city do when the Blues have left and the Green Guy is nowhere to be found? Band together! Pick up your pitchforks and 2-by-4s! A handful of pebbles and a sling worked for David, after all, when he faced Goliath.
Uprising was an interesting diversion from previous weeks. Podcast Overlord and I, Miss Ice, talk a lot about how the forays into Malcolm Merlyn’s past really helped to humanize him and show the progression of who he was 21 years before his wife was murdered, and the man he became as a result of the choices he made. He became the person he thought he needed to be in order to protect the people he cared most about, but seemed to lose himself in the process. Read more…

New Heroes Rise on Arrow
“I thought he was green. I thought he was good.” If you fell behind on Arrow before the break you may be as baffled as the criminals of Starling City. Let me catch you up.
The Canary Has fallen.
Thea shot the arrows that killed the Canary.
Malcolm Merlin is back.
The League of Assassins has threatened to make blood flow in the streets of Starling City.
Oliver confessed to Sarah’s murder to cover for Thea.
Oliver requested trial by combat.
Oliver was defeated, pierced with a sword, and pushed off a cliff.
Now you’re up to date and the agonizing 5 weeks of waiting is over. It had been three days since anyone had seen or heard from Oliver. Felicity would not give up hope that Oliver would come home.
