Count to Five
Is the only thing standing between Hawkins and an army of Upside Down monsters a twelve-year-old's ability to take a breath? Join hosts Darrell and Addi as we break down "Count to Five," the season 2 finale of Tales From '85, where the Golem has Mike, Daniel's fear-powered gate is nearly open, and the H.I.C. has to out-think a monster they can't overpower. We dig into Dustin's plan to cut off Daniel's energy supply by splitting the party. We debate which of us has created the better team names, but one team uses the Hate Sprites' love of that dusty "love potion" mist to lure them away, another burns the glowing flowers all over town, and El takes on the Golem alone. We also cover Charlie's discovery in the mines, LuMax's showdown with Jeff and his bullies at the bridge, and Dustin, Will, Charlie, and Nikki's last-second escape ahead of the gas explosion.
Then comes the moment the whole season has been building toward and the inspiration for the episode title: Mike remembering Nancy's advice and counting to five to take his power back from the fear that's feeding the Golem. We talk about how that moment pays off Nancy's lesson from earlier in the season, what it means for Mike's own fear of failure, and the fight that finally brings Daniel down. We also discuss the answer to the Bloodaxe Bill mystery and how the gang clears the Dandridge name. After the battle, we talk about the quick epilogue: Nikki's mom landing a job at Hawkins High so the Baxters can stay, and Mike finally asking El to be his girlfriend. We also share our thoughts on the season as a whole, what worked, what didn't, and where Tales From '85 could go next.
