Lex Luthor is the Man of Tomorrow and he is controlling everything today. He is the head of the DEO and many think he is a hero. Only a select few know the truth. Not many could have their memories restored by J’onn J’onzz. He warned that restoring everyone’s memories would cause irreparable damage.
We discover that Lena knows everything because Lex made a deal with the monitor to preserve her memories. Lillian feels like she knows what is going on based on what her son tells her, but you see herein lies the power. Lex can edit the story. He can tell his mother only what he wishes her to know. Lex is always holding the cards trying to keep the advantage for himself.
Brainy is really trying to be a good boyfriend for Nia. He is learning the art of making her feel special without smothering her. At a smoothie stand he is faced with someone he didn’t expect. It’s another Brainiac. Back at the DEO there is even more including a female version who thinks she is the director. It turns out that to avoid the antimatter wave some aliens used a wormhole that led to a safe haven. Spending time with all these Brainiacs you begin to realize that Prime Brainy is different. He seems a step behind the others. When our Brainy was very young his father put personality inhibitors on him after fearing he may turn out like his mother. She put an entire planet in a bottle without stopping to think about the effect it would have on the inhabitants of that world. This is possibly the reason that Brainy did not see Crisis coming. The inhibitors kept him cut off from the Main Brain.
Kara wants to take this chance to be honest with Lena. She doesn’t know about the deal Lex struck with The Monitor to leave Lena’s memories intact. Kara attempts to sway Lena to work with her. Lillian warns Lena that working with Supergirl could lead to pain, however if she were to take Lex’s side her feelings would be spared. There is no doubt that once Lex no longer benefits from something he will pull out of that deal. You can’t have hurt feelings if you know up front there are no emotions involved. Lex even used a truth seeker to assure Lena that he would stop working with her the moment it stops benefiting him.
Did I mention that one of the Brainiacs has his world in a bottle? I do understand the motivation. His planet was about to be swallowed by antimatter and he had the knowledge that could give his people a second chance. What kind of existence is that? In his desperation to bring his people back he wants to open the bottle. The consequences of which would be catastrophic. Both worlds would die due to the energy released. Thank goodness Supergirl and Brainy are able to stop this from happening.
Nia encourages Prime Brainy to remove his inhibitors. Now having access to the Main Brain the female Brainiac 5 warns that fighting Lex Luthor will cause more harm than good. She has already seen this part of the timeline and knows the outcome. She urges our Brainy to make better choices. As a result Brainy warns Lex that his team is making plans to stop him. Lex doesn’t seem too concerned but does have a special assignment for his new ally. Lex needs future knowledge of Leviathan. After all, Lex Luthor doesn’t want to have anyone else achieving world domination except for himself.
What about Obsidian North? They want their technology in every single house. What are they going to do? Use the power of suggestion to get people to do what they want? People will be lost in a fantasy world that is so believable it’s hard to separate the real world and the virtual reality. Will they put us all in little bottles and leave us happily lost in a world made up by our own minds? One thing is for sure. Bottle episodes usually are a self contained story told in one hour. This episode has ramifications in it that will affect many episodes to come.

I’d like to take a moment to shout out the two cool “Supergirl” mentions on other shows this week; first we had “Batwoman” and the CatCo magazine blurb where Kara interviewed Batwoman so Kate could be out in both identities when it comes to her sexuality and then we had Laurel 3.0 aka Black Siren on “Arrow” FINALLY make a joke I’ve been waiting for forever when she called J’onn J’onzz John John. 🙂 I preferred the “Batwoman” nod more because “Arrow” went too far saying J’onn’s powers could be simplified to a ring; I know they needed Mia to have her memories back and he couldn’t be there but still it felt like if that’s the case she’s the point of J’onn beyond the Danvers sisters’ love for him and the fan like, I loved the John John beat but the use of the lore didn’t work for me.
On to the podcast…
You guys covered the crap out of Crisis and you’re back so soon to do this so yes you win the week and deserve your weekend time off! ???❤️
I still think long term there’s a lot of little things that may add up to bigger issues John post Crisis but we’ll see how it goes.
At this point why not do “Green Arrow And The Canaries”; yeah that pilot was ROUGH to say the least but it has more I’m personally interested in than the Superman series I have to say. Again I can’t speak to it until we see it, maybe it’ll surprise me, but based on what we’ve seen of Lois and Clark I’m not thrilled by a series with them. I don’t know if I’m just not buying the portrayals, because I’m interested more in seeing the DC roster beyond him, or a combination of the two but I am not hyped by this project yet.
There was no kid on “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman”; Dean has said that probably would have been the next step but they never got there because ABC ended the show while Terri was pregnant.
You know hearing the donut scene again it’s pretty hypocritical of Alex to talk about changing relationships by returning memories because they gave Kelly hers back – why, probably simply because she’s important to Alex so who is J’onn to say Kelly and Alex can have their relationship but not others? What if there’s other couples out there who were just starting to get involved who now only see the other as a friend or stranger? It’s just very double standard; the hypocrisy fits Alex because she’s and anti hero but still I’m just slammed home with this opinion hearing the clip again. Honestly if you take out the “love interest” plot which was already started what is the point of giving Kelly her memories back? It’s not like she has important information they need her to focus on because Mal didn’t happen now and it’s not like she knew Kara is Supergirl so she needs to remember that (keep in mind that based on what we’ve been shown on screen Kelly Olsen still doesn’t know the secret!) so what makes her worthy of all the memories? Brainy needs them because they need him at his best, Alex needs hers because we are NOT doing another memory loss plot with her, and Nia needs to know because she’s Kara’s backup and work excuse buddy but why does Kelly need them when Andrea doesn’t for example? Andrea fought Leviathan for them before the Crisis so wouldn’t it be important to tell her so she can be an ally again? Again it’s hypocritical of the super group but I’m ok with it being tied to Alex because while the show never call her one odds are she’s my anti hero baby and they do her anti heroness so well. 🙂 Keep Alex Danvers anti heroic writers, it’s not a bad thing! 🙂
I agree with Justina, I like Jon as Lex; that said I will be ready to be Lex free next season because this is Kara’s show not Clark’s this we don’t need his bad guy for hers. Kara has her own bad guys who can do a season; remember Reign, who was gray depending on how you saw her actions, we can bring Odette back if they’d like to do that plot fully this time (it would create a love triangle for Alex even though she’s no cheater because we all saw how Sam looked at Alex right 🙂 and I’ll just say no to Sam back for now because no to love triangles but they could do it as the rightful whole season instead of having to split it with Mon drama) or Livewire since Leslie isn’t dead or Lillian…there’s also Silver Banshee…bottom line we don’t need Lex. Again props to Jon Cryer but after two seasons of Lex I’m ready for him to have a seat.
I did love Kara didn’t take the clean slate option!!!
Lol, every time I heard big brain I immediately went to the “Futurama” skit – “The Big Brain am winning! I am the graetest!”. Ha.
Stop John, let James go in peace.
Ooh if Nia’s mom is alive that would be huge for her!
I’m with Darryl on the fact Briany’s mom’s actions didn’t scream evil just as a mom trying to make her kid happy. I can see how it could be taken as evil depending on what it does to the inhabitants do the planet but on the core is it really any different than someone getting a sea shell for their kid from a beach trip? If he had said it was an illegal act I could get it but as is it doesn’t come off like that based on the dialogue.
“Let’s talk about William” let’s not John; William = zzzzzzz.
iBrain. 🙂 Also yes to more Meagan on the series in Brainy plots!
Awe K Vox; I’m so going to have to send her 24 pack hot dog money for that. 🙂
What do you mean “if Livewire is alive” Leslie she never died; no body no death and there was no body in S3 after the Reign fight on the fort so the only logical path is she was in the ship healing up and was currently living in the Legion ship healing up. 🙂 Livewire better be alive as she’s so much fun and one of the best villains for the series because of her personal connection to Kara and her anti villain potential!
Lena still remembers she shot Lex even if it didn’t happen on Earth Prime so her anger about it towards Kara still works in my opinion, the planet may be gone but the fact remains she still committed that act.
Malafect may never have happened so the car could be on Earth; again just because J’onn would remember that plot doesn’t mean it happened on Earth Prime. Malafect could still be evil or he could be fighting white Martians on Mars. We honestly don’t know what the plots are for the side characters when you factor in the reboot as it where; as long as Leslie is still Livewire and Sam is still Reign we’re doing good though. 🙂 For all we know Astra could be alive somewhere! Ooh, what if Fort Rozz didn’t crash yet on Earth Prime so all those encounters are back in play for a callback?!
“It’s A Super Life” – are we taking bets on this being a “It’s A Wonderful Life” nod or is that just too easy? It’ll be interesting to see what they do with it and if it is a “what if” episode such as what if Kara didn’t get powers when she came to Earth?
Here’s to season 7, 8, 9, and 10 for us also! 🙂
there was a cliffhanger involving a baby in the series finale so there was a kid but it went absolutely nowhere
