Legion was a demonic spirit Jesus dealt with in the Bible.  Hugo has his Legion of Horribles ready to be unleashed on Gotham including a killer Fish.  Can our team of heroes unite to defeat the Legion?

Legion for Hugo:

GU43 Legion - Jim and Basil

Hugo awakens a new member of his Legion of Horribles and his name is Basil Karlo.  He has blank white corneas and stretchy skin thanks to octopod DNA.  But no memory, another disappointment to Hugo.  But he is of use to Hugo.

Bruce has realized Selina has been trapped in Arkham.  He goes to Jim and Alfred for help.  Alfred sees the change in him and after asking What Would Thomas Wayne Do lets Bruce go on the mission.  Lucius Fox can do some sleuthing to find radiation that will lead to Indian Hill.  Bruce will talk with Hugo.  Jim will slip in as a guard and follow Lucius’ markings to Indian Hill.

Hugo has started to build his Legion and he is still on top of things.  He begs Bruce to sacrifice his morals for science and advancement and not make the mistake that got his parents killed.  Bruce refuses in a very Batman tone.  But Hugo captures Jim, Lucius, and Bruce.

Ed has joined the Legion and is charged with getting answers from Lucius and Bruce or he will gas them.  Jim is strapped in and put in a pice of equipment.  Basil then has that helmet put on his head and comes out looking and sounding like Jim.  Hugo has added Clayface to his Legion and now can put him in Jim’s spot.

Hugo’s Legion is powerful and strong and they will need to be.  Alfred has come to the GCPD for help when Bruce misses his check-in.  Acting Captain Bullock has given his first press conference (leaving out Azrael’s killers were Penguin & Butch) and is happy with his power.  He mobilizes the entire GCPD and they head to Arkham to confront Hugo and save the day.

Legion of Fish for the Owls:

GU43 Legion - Fish

Fish, infused by cuttlefish DNA, the toxic water of Gotham, the electrical equivalent of a lightening strike is alive again.  Hugo is ready to implant the persona of a war goddess on her (she has a suit to match).  But she has her memories and personality and now the ability to command people by touching them.  Hugo is happy, Fish is discovering her new abilities, and for most of us we are just cringing because she is back.  Maybe the writers have learned from this successful season and going to do a better job with her.  We can hope, because the rest of the season has been great!  We talked on the podcast and said in season 1 they wrote to the “movie star” Jada.  This year they wrote great characters and let the actors and actresses grow in them.  Hopefully they will do the same with Jada.

GU43 Legion - Court of Owls

The Court of the Owls are the true founders of Indian Hill and Hugo’s work.  Their representative calls Hugo out for his failures (Freeze & Azrael) who are way to public. But Hugo, ever the man of words, tells them of his success with Fish.  She has been brought back from the dead with her memories and personality.  This is what they want.  The white haired lady tells Him to move the work upstate and wipe out Indian Hill.  Hugo will enable the members of the Court to rise from the dead and assemble their Legion of assassins called Talons!

Legion of Followers for the Goddess of Fire:

GU43 Legion - Firefly and Cat

Firefly’s memories of the past and Selina are very fuzzy.  She thinks, because Professor Strange has given her that persona, she is the goddess of fire.  Nimble Cat escapes her flames relatively un-singed and knocks Bridgett out.  Selina cannot get out before Bridgett awakes.  When Selina cannot get Bridgett to snap out of the persona, she convinces Firefly that goddesses need followers.  The two then try to burn their way out.

Closing Thoughts:

I loved reading the Court of the Owls storyline in the comics for many reasons.  One being it pulled in one of my favorite heroes Nighwing/Dick Grayson.  But I really have enjoy how the writers of Gotham have brought that storyline in a new way and made it feel organic.  I hope that this storyline continues into season three.  I would LOVE to see Hugo stay as well, but we will see after the events of next week.  This season the villians have risen and shown their wrath.  Now the Legion looks to be set loose to wreck Gotham!

The next episode is “Transference”:  While Gordon, Bruce and Lucius remain at Indian Hill, the city of GOTHAM will be met with a new threat as Hugo Strange’s inmates devise a plan to escape and start their new lives in GOTHAM in the all-new “Wrath of the Villains: Transference” Season Finale episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, May 23 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
