Team Wayne, not yet Team Batman, was on the hunt for Pinewood and the people behind it. Meanwhile Hugo sends Mr. Freeze to oppose them. Plus Galavan is reborn as Azrael!
Team Wayne: Pinewood
Bruce and Team Wayne (no not that one, from Team Wayne vs Team Troy from their many podcasts :D) are in the Bat Cave er Bat Office. Bruce can get through all the encryption, but his dad’s calendar password is Bruce and so Bruce is golden. He finds Karen Jennings name, address and Pinewood Farms. He is off to find her and we are unsure if Alfred got in food into him before hand. They find Karen’s place and she attacks Alfred but Bruce refuses to use the gun. He uses his words and draws Karen out. Karen had a hard childhood and a deformed hand. Her no good dad attacked her and she landed in prison for his death. The folks at Pinewood Farms a Wayne Enterprises black-op (aka Indian Hill 1.0) found her in Blackgate and promised a new hand. But she ended up with a reptilian claw.
After Team Wayne heads to Pinewood, they discover it abandoned. Karen is holding back information. She knows Pinewood’s leader by face only. But they are faced with attacking goons, a security guard and finally the GCPD. She and Alfred are locked up and Bruce questioned by Barnes. She is set to be sent back to Blackgate and the rest of Team Wayne is released.
Bruce, Jim and Alfred put their stories together and know they need to get Karen out before she is killed. They distract driver with a bag-o-cash and knock out the guard. They are on the way to safety. Karen shares that she kept things back to protect Bruce, because Thomas Wayne got her and others out of Pinewood once he found out Hugo had corrupted his dream for good. He treated Karen like a daughter. Bruce wants to protect his would-be sister and get her to safety once she has picked out Pinewood’s director. But Team Wayne is foiled, Karen is no more, and Bruce is riddled with guilt.
His sister in spirit is dead and he failed in his promise to keep her safe. His father was betrayed by a friend and killed for trying to stop the evil work. He is broken hearted but Jim gives him hope and Team Wayne will get to the bottom of it all!
Team Wayne: Jim and Barbara
Jim is confronted by Barbara fresh out of Arkham. She wants to make amends and move forward. But Jim is not ready. He pushes her out of the apartment, but not before she sees the photo of The Lady. Barbara knows Jim is still on the Wayne case. Jim needs to clear his head and the best way is to crack other heads. He grabs some tools from Bullock’s whammy drawer and sets out to find out where The Lady is. She employed Matches Malone to kill the Wayne’s and she can lead Team Wayne to the real people behind the crime. After cracking heads he learns that The Lady can be found at The Artemis Club (Perhaps a reference to Green Arrow’s sidekick Artemis?)
Jim is ready to barge in but is stopped by the lady bouncer with a gun. But Babs comes to his rescue with a plan. He can’t get in (it’s a women’s only club for villains). Barbara steps in and wins The Lady over with the offer of her fame, money and the ability to bring in the man who ruined The Lady’s reputation. Jim sneaks through the kitchen but is foiled again by the bouncer and Babs. Babs ties him to a chair and The Lady is happy. She things Jim wants revenge for the assassins sent after him. But Babs reveals it is all about the Wayne murder. The Lady is charmed by Babs into given over the name of who hired her. The name is only a nickname “The Philosopher.” Babs then tases The Lady and the bouncer then frees Jim. She knows Jim inside and out. She knew him and made her plan around him. She knows that Jim cannot move on until he closes the case. But all she wants is for him to look at her like he used to. But Jim can’t give her what she needs and she is left heartbroken. She runs back to Tabitha and Butch and Jim runs to rejoin Team Wayne.
Team Wayne: The anit-Team Wayne
Hugo is prepping Patient 44 for the reanimation process. He is ever hopeful but Peabody is skeptical. She reports that Team Wayne is trying to find Karen. Hugo wants Karen back to keep her quiet and probably to continue his work on her. For he is “The Philosopher” and has moved on from Pinewood Farms to Indian Hill. Karen was just the start of his work, but he wants to complete it.
When their men end up killed and shot at Pinewood, they loose Karen to the GCPD. She must not be allowed to talk. Team anti-Wayne needs help. Hugo and Peabody ask the stone cold rocker Mr. Freeze if he is ready for a field trip. He armors up (no head gear though) and heads out to intercept Karen’s transport. He sends Team Wayne for a slide down an icy hill. While Jim and Alfred take shots at him none land, aim for his unprotected head guys! Karen wishes Bruce well, telling him his dad would be proud of the man he has become. Then she runs out is frozen solid and smashed to bits by Mr. Freeze.
Back at Arkham, Peabody passes on the news that Jim is a part of Team Wayne. Hugo says life is going to be interesting. Then they get an alarm Patient 44 is awake 12 hours early. The head down to Indian Hill to find Patient 44 aka Theo Galavan ripping the orderlies apart. He is have conversation with his sister (who is not there) about The Holy City and the saint who will deliver us. Azrael!
Final thoughts:
Team Wayne is making huge strides to becoming Team Batman. But Team anti-Wayne just got an un-holy crusader on their side. Hugo may have paid to have the Wayne’s offed but something tells me that he is not the big player. He has a roll and loves to experiment. He will do whatever it takes to continue. But someone has to pay the bills and someone is above him. Who is that? I don’t know, but I’m betting we will learn more in season 3. Karen and I are loving this season and hope you are too.
