I’ll agree the second half of the crossover was better than the first; I don’t know if it’s because they balanced the characters beats and action better, if it’s because it felt like they took the villains more seriously – by that I mean if you’re going to bring in a historical evil like that don’t sugar coat what they did and make them out to be just another bad guy of the week, or if it’s a combination of things but I definitely liked the second half more. As a whole the crossover was definitely the best they’ve ever done as it tied in events from previous episodes of each show and left with moments which would effect each show on various levels; this is how you do a crossover and I hope they’ll remember it going forward instead of them feeling like isolated specials that at times interrupt the season flow for pacing.
The interactions overall were good but I do wish we’d seen a bit more with some characters, Mick for example while I love his humor felt like he was there for just that and really could have been replaced by someone else saying funny lines; I would have loved to seen Mick hitting on Kara again to touch back on that story element from the last crossover. Sara, while I love we finally got a Nyssa comment from her, felt like she was there more for Alex’s plot than because she’s actually friends with Barry. Speaking of Barry, he was all jacked to meet Alex each time he’s seen Kara but he didn’t say one word to her when he had her face to face basically…again overall I’d give them a pass on interactions but I can’t rate them at 100.
Snart and Ray were cute! I agree it was super weird how Ray just let Snart say behind; I understood why Ray wanted to go back, to finish the fight, but I don’t get why Snart is okay with separating or Ray even for that matter. Is it because Snart wants to see where Ray comes from – if so why not say that? It was just one of the many weird moments sprinkled in this crossover but as you all said it wasn’t enough to destroy the coolness of the overall event.
I’m guessing it was Barry’s daughter; they were definitely related somehow. I heard a debate that if she’s part of the Legion that could play into a mini crossover with “Supergirl” as they’re over there and supposedly the Legion will be touched on in “Flash” also so maybe this is how?
What?! “Supergirl” is one of the best shows on in the comic book sector! I’ll grant S2 wasn’t great, the best parts of it for me were Alex coming out and Lena Luthor, but S1 was awesome and S3 has been good so far so I recommend checking it out if you aren’t already.
The bullet toss back into the gun and the sonic clap by Kara were so the best moves in all the fights!
A best villain debate you say? Livewire says “hi”. 🙂 Some of our “Supergirl” villains could give him a run for his money and Prometheus was pretty clever on “Arrow” last season.
I’ll admit Sara and Alex did make a great fighting duo, but NO to any romance as Nyssara!
I don’t know who has the train in their area but bonus points for that.
You so need to watch “Person Of Interest” Flash, it’s a great series! The final season is debatable with some events but overall it’s great; some of the best continuity usage I’ve ever seen.
Evil Quentin was the most evil of allI think; that speech to Sara was just chilling…that whole “Flash” opening at the concentration camp was the most chilling part of the crossover in my opinion. After him though I’d go evil Kara because Melissa killed it and then evil Flash because he was bad but not the leader so her evil topped his on the feelings scale. Evil Oliver was just more broody Oliver so honestly he didn’t bother me much; he had a few looks her and there but really it was just more broody Oliver which made me roll my eyes more than not.
That is a really fair point about how Firestorm didn’t have to split up in the fight, had they said things had to be done at the same time ok but they didn’t so I get Harley’s anger. I do like Stein got shot because with all the bullets flying more characters should have been injured, you don’t have to kill them to the point the Legends spend part of their episode resetting time but a shot here or there Gideon has to patch up would have been more realistic. I also like if they had to kill Stein they did it in the Legends hour versus him going out on another show essentially. All that said I get again Harley being ticked about Stein dying because that is an over used exit path, yes it’s dramatic so it worked in this episode but he also could have as easily gotten heeled, fought with Jax one last time, drank the serum and gone home happily to his family; yes the Legends time travel so they might see him again but it won’t be the same. It reminds me of how “Arrow” handled Laurel’s exit, instead of letting her retire to show fans this is an option for the heroes as well they killed her off because….drama? I will say Stein’s exit was WAY better done than Laurel’s but still it’s like death is your only way out and that just depressing…yes being heroic is nice but don’t you deserve a life as well so why can’t we sometimes see a happy ending? It’s especially annoying when they try to rewrite event basically and have the character back, I love Black Siren but she doesn’t make up for them screwing over Laurel so I would get if Harley and others disliked seeing a version of Stein on the series any time soon.
Another totally fair point about the others getting injured in the final fight scene, I know some have armor but not all of them so even if it were multiple grazes or a broke bone maybe there should have been something with everything going on…some bruises at the very least.
“I think about going back to her often.” – THEN DO IT SARA; ugh LOT frustrates me so much when it comes to Nyssa! I would like to adopt Harley’s earlier sound effects because I feel like breaking things to release frustration a bit over this topic. Seriously they are out of excuses for not touching on Nyssa in my book; you want claim scheduling still for why we haven’t seen Katrina on, fine…it’s a weak excuse given she pops up on “Arrow” once a season but it’ll buy you time on physically showing Nyssa but you don’t need Katrina on screen to talk about Nyssa so again they have no excuses. Don’t think it escaped me either that the dialogue was in the “Flash” hour not the “Legends Of Tomorrow” hour so technically they still haven’t talked about her on their show and again why I don’t get it! Nyssa would be such a great addition on that show for at least a season; they could explore her with and without Sara as Nyssa is still mysterious as an individual and Nyssara is something fans have been asking about forever and she could give you another fighter which they need as they’re a person to persons, depending on what happens with Jax in the immediate future, down and someone usually gets hurt so you have an extra helper.
I believe there’s more than 53 Earths, I think they just retconned a bit here because they like saying 52 on DC shows to callback to the New 52 which was a bust to me personally as that version destroyed my favorite book “Birds Of Prey”; if you say for each action there’s an Earth then for every yes choice Earth there’s also a no choice Earth and they split with each decision so there’s literally an infinite amount basically but for this moment is just 52 because company shout out. Ha. I’m not holding my breath for them to say what’s up with Krypton, it could be it never exploded so Kara never left or it could be her pod never arrived and then you have to ask is it still in space or did she land somewhere else. “Supergirl” is Earth 38 according to Barry.
The kryptonite is a debate but I feel this is just another inconsistent moment used to set up a callback, if anyone remembers the fight club video featuring Garod last year which was a teaser to that crossover in it Kara tells Oliver about kryptonite so I think it’s a nod to that. If we’re taking it seriously though Barry has jumped Earths as well as Wells it seems so they could have brought him a piece or Wells could have mentioned it and Oliver created a synthetic version as we know that’s possible too. Also there’s the Legends who could have picked it up for him off screen from another time.
A long but fun podcast!
