Hey guys,
It would behoove you to do a bit more research on the films you talk about before you talk about them. It doesn’t serve you well when, for example, you comment on the FX of Alien 3, stating they’re bad b/c it’s early CG when that’s really not the case — they were done as puppetry on a blue screen and was actually quite advanced for the time (albeit that time was a very short window).
There are other examples scattered throughout these episodes. I only listened to these 4 episodes about the Alien series, but decided I won’t be continuing since you both opted to add The Man Who Knew Too Much to your upcoming Cary Grant/Alfred Hitchcock series when Grant isn’t even in that film.

P.S. I didn’t catch the numerology reference in Alien Resurrection, so it’s not all bad. I just think if you’re going to do a podcast about movies, it would help if you did more research.
Great feedback, Andy. I guess this is what happens when we try to rush through a podcast series. We did all of these Alien podcasts at one time and clearly we should have prepared a bit more. I think the term “special effects” would have been a better term than “CG”, but my opinion on them still remains.
As for the Cary Grant flub, that’s just embarrassing. I typically choose the 3 films prior to recording, but in this case I decided to do it on the fly and that was clearly a mistake. I appreciate you bringing the error to our attention. I hope you give the other podcasts a listen. –Darrell
Yeah, I’m in no way defending the end result of the effects in Alien 3. For the most part, they’re still terrible. But for what it’s worth, the puppetry itself was great.
I agree. It seems that people want to use the latest innovations in their movies, but it’s not always ready for the masses, and it hurts the movie as a result. That’s one thing I like about the original Star Wars trilogy. They chose to use puppets and miniatures instead of newer (at the time) methods. As a result, those movies still hold up really well 30 years later.
I’m just jazzed you are doing a Hitchcock Triplecast , I was sure you’d figure out Cary wasn’t in either Hitchcock version of ” The Man Who Knew Too Much ” . I understand Andy’s complaint , but for me I’m not in this for flawless podcasts , I rather like room to err .
Did you catch that Anthony Hopkins is playing Hitch in a movie about the making of “Psycho” , It looks like an interesting film . Hitch was a weird guy in his interaction with his female actresses . Hopkins said it was his most compelling performance since ” Silence of the Lambs “.
Doing Hitchcock gives me hope you’ll do a Bogart Triplecast sometime .

LOL! Glad I could bring your spirits up! We will be doing more Triplecasts. I don’t know if we’ll get any more episodes in this year (maybe when Fringe takes a few weeks off). If not, it will be sometime after the first of the year.
