In episode 52 we come to the end of LOST season 5 with our look back at “The Incident” part 1 and part 2. We see Jacob visit Kate, Sawyer, Sayid, Ilana, Jack, and Hurley off the island, and we also learn more about Juliet via flashback. We also see Jacob on screen for the first time and are introduced to the mysterious “man in black.”
We discuss all of the flashbacks as well as the various twists and turns taken as Jack continues his drive to detonate the hydrogen bomb and reset the timeline. We also talk about the relationship dynamics between Jack and Sawyer, Jack and Kate, Kate and Sawyer, and Sawyer and Juliet.
Of course, we also discuss all of the great storyline surrounding Locke, Ben, Richard, and Jacob. We wonder what might have happened if Ilana would have arrived at the foot of the statue sooner, how Ben fell right into the same manipulations he’s used on many others, and what we thought about this episode when it first aired. In episode 51 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we take a look back at LOST season 5 episode 15, “Follow the Leader.” In “Follow the Leader” we see Jack pursue what he believes to be his destiny to locate the hydrogen bomb and use it to blow up the Swan Station construction site. However, we also see the breaking point in his relationship with Kate and she leaves him. Meanwhile, Sawyer and Juliet are beaten and then put on the submarine and Miles, Hurley, and Jin prepare to head back to the beach.
In 2007, we see a different perspective of the moment when Richard takes a bullet out of John’s leg and tells him that he will have to die. In episode 48 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we take a look back at LOST season 5 episodes 9 & 10, “Namaste” and “He’s Our You.” In “Namaste” we see Sawyer, Juliet, and Jin work to help Jack, Hurley, and Kate blend in to the DHARMA Initiative, while trying to keep Sayid safe. Sayid, however, does not have any interest in joining up with the DHARMA Initiative. Radzinski thinks that Sayid has seen too much, and pushes to have him killed. Meanwhile, in 2007 Sun and Lapidus meet up with Christian Shepard and he tells them that Jin and the others are in 1977.
In “He’s Our You,” we see the events that led to Sayid getting on Ajira flight 316, and how he struggles with the reality that he is good at killing things. They take Sayid to the DHARMA torturer and he tells them the truth, but it’s too outrageous for them to actually believe. In episode 47 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we take a look back at LOST season 5 episodes 7, “The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham,” and episode 8, “LaFleur.” As Locke leaves the island he is taken to a Tunisian hospital and met by Charles Widmore. Widmore gives Locke the resources he needs to round up the Oceanic 6 and return them all to the island, but Locke fails. Ben Linus saves Locke from a moment of despair, but finishes Locke off once Locke gives him the info he needs. We talk about all of the developments with the characters and some of the interesting death scenes in our discussion of, “The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham.”
In our discussion of “LaFleur” we talk about the all the events that happened on the island after Locke left. We discuss the relationship that has developed between Sawyer and Juliet, the importance of Sawyer being able to move on after killing the real Sawyer, the birth of Ethan Rom, how LaFleur was able to calm the situation between the hostiles and the Dharma camp, and the arrival of Kate, Jack, and Hurley. Daniel tells the Others how to dispose of a hydrogen bomb left on the island by the US Army. Off the island, Desmond approaches Charles Widmore to get the location of Daniel’s mother.
In “The Little Prince” the Oceanic 6 continue to fall into Ben’s plan to get them back to the island. It is revealed that Ben’s lawyer is the one trying to get Kate on the run and bust Hurley out of jail. However, Sun still has plans to kill Ben.
