Welcome back to Maid of Steel! Karen and Emilee are back to discuss Supergirl Season 2 Episode 14 “Homecoming” which originally aired on Monday February 27, 2017. This episode featured the return of Jeremiah Danvers (Dean Cain) and ushered in the next phase for Cadmus’s agenda. When the DEO gets an alert that Cadmus is moving something, a weapon of some sort, Supergirl flies in to put an end to it only to come face to face with a badly beaten Jeremiah. He’s welcomed back at the DEO with open arms and open minds, but is immediately met with suspicion by Kara’s boyfriend.
Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog
In case enough time passed for you to forget, let me put this nugget back into your mind. Jeremiah was a bullfrog. He was a good friend of mine. But times have changed, haven’t they? There is much more to the Jeremiah/Cadmus ship than we yet know, but we can likely make one large assumption: he’s not doing this because he wants to.
If Cadmus’s goal, in briefly surrendering Jeremiah to the DEO, was to obtain the master list of aliens in National City (and presumably all whom they know about), then this must have been a major piece to the puzzle. Using Jeremiah as their proverbial Trojan Horse will only work once. Now the DEO, now Kara and Alex and J’onn, they know his true allegiance. Maybe they don’t know why his allegiance has shifted, but they certainly won’t trust another glorified homecoming. Since that card has been played, what is next?
As I say on the podcast, I’m interested in seeing what else Cadmus has Jeremiah involved in which still makes him necessary (not expendable) and still makes him stick around (to uphold the deal to save his kids). Has his idealism on aliens truly shifted? Unlikely, but…nevertheless possible. That little walk Lillian and Jeremiah shared at the end, it was quite telling. He’s not a prisoner at Cadmus; is he so deep that he’s even convinced himself, or does he truly realize there is no other choice? With a bionic arm, now, you have to assume he’s powerful enough to escape, so whatever Cadmus has planned for the aliens in National City (slash the world) must be extensive enough that he needs to stick around to ascertain Kara’s life.

Vertigo Comics is still around Karen, you’re correct.
Mon can be nice/sweet at times but he can come of as a jerk as well especially when he doesn’t listen to her.
Since the question was posed, I do lean towards Karen’s side of saying it’s not Kara’s first time but it may be her first fully successful venture where no one got hurt and it lasted enough to be good for everyone we’ll say.
Why is it weird Kara got him flowers? Dates get girls flowers all the time so why can’t a girl give them flowers? I thought it was quite sweet of Kara personally. It shows Mon things that are nice people do for another while dating so it’s a double good move. The move to put them in the lamp was so Mon!
The HR bit by J’onn was PERFECT! I would hope Mon would want to be better for himself not just for Kara. Given she’s SUCH a daddy’s girl for Jeremiah I can understand Alex being blinded, if anyone was going to side with Jeremiah it’d be her, but I agree there should have been more than just Mon having hesitations; as another fan said J’onn locked up M’gann for weeks simply because of who she was so at the very least he should have Jeremiah taking every test the DEO has after how long he’s been with Cadmus, he can be glad to have Jeremiah back like the others but still showing caution or DEO agents could whisper about the homecoming as some of them are cautious given who he’s been around…Mon being the only one felt kind of heavy handed.
Is it just me or do you think Jeremiah’s reveal was really soon? They could have ramped up the drama having it go another episode so it felt kind of soon to reveal him to me.
Chyler is so this season’s MVP!
Fair point about Winn’s research on Jeremiah this episode. I’m hoping Jeremiah stays good because I think there’s some good stuff they could do with him just on the dad front and how he effects the girls so I’m for Dean staying around; I don’t want him to be a bad guy but if he is that’s going to lead to some intense character stuff as well.
There have been some issues with this season for sure namely the imbalance of screen time for various characters and some questionable plots (Guardian), but as Karen said I still have room in my life “Supergirl”!
Loving Karen schooling us with her comic knowledge; I did not know the Chris Clearmont reference and how it was him who saved “X-Men” after the alternate universe/multiple timelines stuff. Thank you Chris for inspiring Bryan Singer to give us awesome “X-Men” movies!
Some blog post comments…
Not going to lie, I started singing the song when I read the title. Ha.
“With a bionic arm, now, you have to assume he’s powerful enough to escape” – come on you know it’s not going to be that easy, I’d guess Lillian has an EMP button that’ll take that arm out if he tries anything on her. 🙂
