Welcome back to Maid of Steel! Karen and Emilee are back discussing Supergirl Season 2 Episode 7 “Changing”, in a podcast episode I’ve entitled Calling Doctor Jones (referencing the terrible Aqua song, of course). A climate change scientist happens across an alien parasite, which inhabits him and uses him to attempt an energy drain on the human race as punishment for destroying the planet. To defeat him, it takes literally all the heroes in National City, including the reluctant ones and the rookies.

Calling Doctor Jones

The beginning of this episode had such promise! I love the story premises that are built on a mysterious X-Files-like/Fringe-like creature fear. The tension and mystery, though, comes from not knowing what dangers that creature possess nor what it’s true intentions are. This parasite is not shy about what it intends to do and says as much every time Ethan opens his mouth.

I call him Ethan, Dr. Jones, because that was his character on Lost. The actor, in spite of the story he was given to act in, brings his A game to the much-needed creepy factor around the Dr. Jones character.

The fight between Supergirl-Parasite-J’onn revealed some pretty great effects! I love the effects when energy appears to sizzle. Like the effects for Livewire! She’s one of my favorite Supergirl villains because they did so well with her effects.
