Welcome to 2022! Its a new year and you know what that means! Its a new Dalek story for our New Year celebration. Chris Chibnall returns with yet another New year special starring the Doctor and her loyal companions Yaz and Dan. This year we are treated to a time loop, Daleks, and fireworks as we celebrate new beginnings.
The episode starts shortly before midnight on New Year’s eve. A storage facility located in Manchester is the scene as the owner Sarah greets her only customer Nick. Meanwhile, in the TARDIS, the Doctor, Yaz and Dan discover that it is necessary to reset the control room after sustaining damage from the Flux. Thinking they have arrived at on a beach planet, our favorite time travelers hastily exit the TARDIS only to find that they have landed on Earth in a storage facility. The same facility that a Dalek has just killed Nick and Sarah in. Our trio of heroes dies next, only to reappear back in the TARDIS at the moment they were arriving. After several instances of deja-vu everyone realizes that they are trapped in a time loop and the building is sealed. Oh Yeah, and the time loop is growing smaller and smaller while the number of Daleks increases.

I really liked Sarah too; she felt like a real person responding to the situation and replying in real ways versus others who react to the situation because direct demands it so that really helped me like her along with her remarks at time. 🙂
I didn’t like the Sarah/Nick hook up at the end as it felt cliché…it was one of the only parts to this special I didn’t like; the other is the fact they set up Yaz/13 but then so I immediately thing on it, they don’t even get a line to each other and talk about the beach and we’re going to regenerate soon and so it feels like a waste to do here if it’s not a focus of the last few bits with them.
He definitely had to go there more than New Years to have that much stuff. Maybe New Years was just the one day for sure he went because he knew Sarah was there; he went other days still too so as not to seem creepy?
I didn’t see the Spring teaser, was that in the extended edition they did later that night?
On a scale of 1-10 I’d give this an easy 8 for sure!
My favorite part of the special was Sarah; again I just enjoyed her SO much. I would have said Yaz/13 but again they didn’t pay that off like they should have I feel. Also what did you two think of that reveal out of curiosity given you didn’t talk about it on the podcast itself?
Sarah as a companion could be fun. 🙂 I think companions should be kept to two at max though Jada because more than that and someone always seems to be left out – see Yaz when Graham and Ryan were there especially because they were family and she was just a friend.
“Window Of Opportunity” is most remembered for being the episode we finally see Jack and Sam kiss because he just went for it in a loop, if that was what we got here Yaz would have kissed Doctor for a go and maybe at the end you see Doctor having deja vu vibes being next to Yaz and Yaz having a look of maybe remembering too before nothing gets said. WOO was your more typical loop too that you have to find a way to break versus the loop getting shorter here which I think was a great way to ramp up the tension of who would survive!
The Weeping Angels must cost too much to do for specials ha.
What is the Division Timeline?
Steelers! 🙂
