#KeepBlackSirenEvil!
I love the photo for this week because Felicity just makes me laugh as all I can think of is her internally going “School? I got this!”. 🙂
For me I’ll admit “Arrow” was always my second favorite show out of the current line up but I can appreciate it helping to get my favorite, “Supergirl”, green lit as the success of the show did make it easier to kick off this TV universe. Personally I think the run can continue beyond “Arrow” and legacy wise who wouldn’t want that; will the “one who started it all” be missed? Sure but if it ends it all too that would also be sad; CW has the TV superhero genre on lock where as Marvel has the movie so just business wise I think they would keep this going, but that’s me. Keep giving the other series shots like you have “Arrow” and let them go into basically 10 year runs and do spin offs and you can easily keep it going…just don’t think team ups are all there every have to be for projects when they merge (I feel it’s coming in the crossover), solo/origin stuff is still good too and keep up with pulling from the roster not just going for the A team characters as it were – sure the trinity is great but they have cool characters around them also who sometimes might even be better than the big 3.
As much as I HATE how Malcolm got away with so much on the show, he was a good villain for his manipulations and ability to screw others over so mentally he was a good challenge; I personally haven’t seen a lot of Slade episodes but I know he’s a fan favorite but still just personally thinking of villains on this series and I can name maybe for the series run like maybe 5 depending on who fans deem a villain or not that we’re good so that’s like 1 every two seasons where as with “Supergirl” we knocked that number out our first season and having only seen a few episodes of “Flash” so far there’s two bad guys fans like I know so that’s half of “Arrow”‘S count for the series. As Cammie said it’s usually the writing just is cliche for them or their handling to drag out the plot feels forced but there’s also the serious problem as we know for at least one bad guy of trying to redeem them when there’s no logical reason that would happen at this point; the writers scared me thinking they would redeem Malcolm and just excuse everything he did because he’s Thea’s dad but thankfully that didn’t happen. Brooding the show has on lock for sure but villains and realistic fight scenes (the stuff the last two seasons including this one have been good so I don’t mean them) they have always just struggled with to me.
It’s seriously almost like the writers are hoping if they don’t talk about Black Siren then she doesn’t exist so if they just call her Laurel enough and have her act like Laurel 1 then she’ll become our Laurel from season 4 and back but I’m sorry that’s extremely insulting and even if that is hope it makes the characters look bad because Felicity was bawling like Darkh had killed her mom in that limo so to just buddy up to Siren now because she’s offering to help off Diaz no. True Oliver ignored Laurel for years but if he accepts her what does that say about him – if you aren’t important you’re interchangeable? I never really saw anything with Diggle and Laurel outside of work buddies but still if he cares so much why aren’t these people on Siren more to not screw up her legacy? Dinah is the only one who has believable reactions to Siren given continuity between seasons and again it’s just so frustrating. Okay Siren wants to steal Laurel’s life because she makes good money as the DA and the team has to support it some in public because they gave that lie to her to not explain dopplegangers fine but in private they should be on her about why is she helping them, what is she hoping to get from helping them, and why should they trust her as again I remind them she tried to kill them happily last season! Yes her bodyguarding Felicity is cute and Mia is totally more her in personality than Oliver so many she was cool aunt Siren but still you don’t have to go full redemption to get that! Again there is a class of characters between good and evil and they’re called the antis – embrace them writers as they help with continuity between the extreme of “I’m evil” and “Now I’m good” and real talk anti heroes/anti villains are usually more interesting characters than pure good or bad guys so there’s that bonus!
Sorry Flash but the Arrow Cave scene with Dinah and Oliver just annoyed me so much! I’m still waiting on Oliver to really apologize to Dinah one on one for saying she was the snitch when all that went down because he still hasn’t really apologized to her for that; he had a backhanded comment a little while back but it wasn’t a real apology like he’s given Renee, the true narc, several times so that scene just had me raging about as much as they have me rage each week Siren does anything remotely that could seem like a redemption move. Oliver has grown some I will give you that but for me he’s still not off the hook of needing to grow until he apologizes to Dinah herself for the accusation. I also don’t like Dinah saying she was too hard on Oliver because all the girl was asking for was for him to try and listen so to say she was “too hard” on him was annoying as it felt like it dismissed Dinah’s side of things; I know I may be reading too much into it but I could have taken her saying she was sorry she yelled over her saying she was too hard because again personally I didn’t see Dinah as asking for too much from the team, were they right about the cops being under skilled yes but that doesn’t mean she was wrong for asking them to work together civilly and try to help each other.
I really hope they don’t bring in new team members during the last season!
Well said Flash regarding why we haven’t seen a scream in the future; I hope she gets it back because again then they can’t push Siren on as easily. 🙂 What I thought was neat was there was two wave blasts when Dinah broke for a moment mid Cry – you see this big wave at first but the second it hurts her she cuts off and then another smaller wave comes out before she stops all together so it definitely seems like she can still do it just not this second. The scar may effect her pitch so in the future she doesn’t hit as hard if you will with the Cry but as Flash said it doesn’t mean she can’t do it every again just because the scar is still there.
“she can’t just always run around looking hot” – true Cammie, she just does that 98% of the time because yes Dinah is hot. 🙂 I agree her plot this week was handled well with her feeling upset understandably some but not letting it crush her although as Cammie said had that happened it would be understandable to a point but yeah it was a good mix of being upset but not letting that one half of her break all of her. Again I’ll say I think Dinah Drake has been the best addition to these last few seasons of the series and she feels like one of the most organic characters on there; her handling with Julianna’s performance has been a treat to watch each week since she joined!
“she’s been pretty much sidelined to office work!” – RAGE!!! This is how it starts Flash and why the redemption arc just needs to stop; again I can sign a deal for anti villain/anti hero but never a full redemption because it only ends badly for for Siren. 🙁
Agreed Cammie, Emiko is the season MVP for offing Diaz. 🙂
I don’t like Emiko as bad guy because it makes no sense to her introduction; Daunte as her backer who trained her ok but why does he care if she interacts with Oliver? Again they didn’t know if he’d get out of jail so why create some elaborate plan to bond with him once he’s out? How does she get into Argus? Why would she help the others if Oliver is her goal? Ok to build up credit but still – this plot just doesn’t flow as well as it did at the start so it’s really bringing Emiko’s inclusion down for me and I’m starting to wonder how else we could use her screen time because we don’t need her for Oliver to want to stop Daunte if he’s bringing issues to the city. As others have said I’m sure Daunte will be the one who killed her mom so we’ll get some big face off where she sides with the team against him over it but I’m not sure I’ll care as much now because this need to connect each plot has actually left me feeling disconnected emotionally than from where I started with it.
William definitely feels like a combination of Oliver (not listening) and Felicity (everything else) but I still say Mia leans more Felicity/Siren than Olicity. Ha.
Well hey Cammie there’s another spin off for “Arrow”, someone lock Julianna down now for that Canary show!
Disagree Dazzler, no to a mechanical Cry for Dinah because we’ve seen that twice on the series with Laurel and Sara so let her have her power. Especially if they merge the Earths in the crossovers it won’t be like powers are rare to the Earth so Dinah can just have her normal scream as Flash said.
I’m going to hate on you again a bit Cammie, I disagree losing the Cry was a good thing for Dinah; I get where you’re coming from in why it helps for you long term but with things changing come series end I think if they used it better and again with the merge of Earths so powers to non powers being more equal there’s no need for it to be a permanent loss.
Lol yes Sara(h); I’m surprised this isn’t a more frequent plot to do recurring villains on a series because the heroes on these shows often make things hard on lawyers I feel. “Supergirl” in season 2 set up the Supergirl Defense by some criminals saying she used excessive forced so it was a whole thing between Kara and Maggie but sadly we haven’t seen it in play; Oliver for sure can be extreme so I’m surprised more of his villains don’t walk, if I was Laurel I’d glare at him each week because it was no wonder she didn’t have time to be Black Canary is S4 she had to do paperwork because of his actions! Ha. Barry might be the best at doing things within the laws but then again he is part of the police force so he gets more than the others how they work.
That is totally fair Sara(h) to say the news of “Arrow” ending would have gone down better had they announced with the renewal 8 would be the final; fans would still be sad of course but it’s easier to take hearing it at the start than being excited for 22 new episodes only to have that knocked down to 10 and learn it’s the last ones. Maybe Stephen was still thinking it over so that explains the wait but if they knew then yeah I can see it going down better if they revealed all this earlier. I agree I don’t fault him for tapping out and he gave all he had while he was doing it so I think they can end with heads held high.
Sara(h) – watch “Supergirl”; it’s not perfect in later seasons but season one is awesome as well as are the Danvers sisters and on the whole I’d argue it is the best CW show since joining the network! 🙂
Yay a Salty Cammie appearance! I will slightly disagree with you Salty, “Supergirl” did not spin off from “Arrow” – that said his success did help her get the green light so there is that.
Applaud to Cammie for the definition of vigilante!
Did they ever say how much Felicity’s Palmer Tech buyout was because maybe some of the money came from there?
Ooh Carey, Siren as the DA on “Batwoman” interesting; if you agree to keep her an anti hero then I will accept this. 🙂 Also I’m sure David Ramsey would love being Green Lantern finally.
“Pro: All the Olicity” – ha yes Scarlet Vixen!
