Ragman’s mask TOTALLY reminds me of Scarecrow! If I had to rank the new team members as of now I’d say Eve and Roy are tied because they’re still mysterious in their personalities given we haven’t seen much on them so they could go up more or down then I’d give it to Curtis OUT OF THE SUIT because I like him when he’s not in the field, I don’t know what it is about him that changes between those two moments but I liked him helping last year out of the suit but this year maybe it’s as you all are saying and it’s because he’s just not ready or he hasn’t embraced his superhero persona just yet – he has the fairness part down but beyond that he’s still figuring out how he’ll be in the field – super serious like Oliver or a big more fun having like Roy Harper or Thea. Renee I like but because he still has a lot of loner in him it causes problems for others and that I don’t like so I’m willing to tie him with Curtis but he has to stop with the names when people say and he has to at least listen to someone on the team even if it’s not Oliver because if they get hurt because of his actions it could turn the team on him; his attitude while great for bring up alternate takes does also hold him back at times. Eve didn’t even do bow training last season, she mostly used sticks like Laurel so the bow training is new for her.
I agree with Shadow about Felicity in the field. I agree with Kevin regarding the prison break; I also didn’t like how easily Diggle came back, I would have liked to have seen Diggle staying behind and them working to free him without him having the recapture hanging over him because now he’ll have to watch everything he does and how is that any better than being locked up – he can’t enjoy being with his family and friends really. This may be something Flashpoint fixes when we get baby Sara back, John’s imprisonment never happened.
I agree about the Roy-Felicity scenes. I agree with Cammie, John’s reasons for wanting to stay in prison made sense and again it would have been better to see him realizing he wants out after talking to Oliver, Lyla, and Felicity via phone meetings. Thea and Quentin are definitely father-daughter.
I enjoyed Cammie’s comments about how female characters get rotated out but male characters hang around; I still feel this is what happened with Laurel, there may have been off screen things too but it felt like they didn’t know what to do with her last season and someone had to be in the grave at that point so she got taken out even though they could have easily let her retire and gone off to work in another city because as Cammie said earlier that’s a unique plot in the superhero world. Yes we are seeing it now with Thea wanting distance from the team but I feel Laurel leaving could have sparked that just as easily as her death. Laurel’s exit was just so poorly handled in my opinion. As for baby Sara, again bring her back, they can say Diggle and Lyla had another kid later on who’s John Jr. who Oliver adopts and he goes by Connor to match the LOT scene if you just want to match that scene which given LOT is about time travel you could just say that’s an alternate reality but it’s not “Arrow”‘s main reality but Sara doesn’t have to disappear to make room for John Jr; Diggle could have just as easily said “Tell Sara and John Jr. I love them.” in that first scene with Lyla and it would have tied in Flashpoint also.
Another good podcast.
Great episode! I agree with Cammie that one of the reasons Felicity didn’t want to break John out is because lately whenever she makes big decisions it backfires and now she’s a little gun shy. I also think she’s a very logical person, so she’d probably want to first try clearing his name by exposing the corrupt people who framed him (something the team has specialized in for five years!) instead of just rushing to break him out and leaving him a fugitive on the lam. I just wish we had a few more lines explaining her stance. As Cammie mentioned, even the Havenrock plot seemed to be more about Rory than her, so we’re really missing out on her POV. Hope it gets better now that her boyfriend secret is coming out…
