We’re talking about Lost episodes 1×11, All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues, and 1×12, Whatever the Case May Be in this episode of We Have To Go Back Podcast. We discuss Jack’s relationship with his dad, and how the flashbacks in Cowboys revealed a lot about their tumultuous relationship. We also discuss the way Jack and Locke had two opposing methods for locating Charlie and Clair, our initial thoughts about Ethan Rom, and some great clues that Walt gave us about the future stories of Lost. In our Cases discussion we give our opinions on Kate and how her flashback matched up with the last words of the marshall. We also talk about the budding relationship between Sayid and Shannon, the discovery of the hatch, and Rose reaching out to help Charlie.

Hi Kari and Darrell,
When I heard you hadn’t gotten any feedback this week, I wanted to introduce myself and let you know that I’m listening every week and enjoying the podcast! I live in Florida and I’m planning to attend the reunion in Oahu next year, so I hope I’ll get to meet you there! Even though I watched Lost from the beginning, I didn’t know about podcasting until after it was over, so I feel like I missed out on a lot of the fun water-cooler discussions the first time around. I’m happy to have the opportunity to participate in the Lost re-watches going on now (yours and Lost2014 also), to somewhat make up for what I missed the first time around! I’ll definitely send in comments, maybe even leave a voice mail (I’ve never done that with a podcast before!)
A couple of comments this week:
I agree with your favorite moment of Cowboys – Sawyer’s conversation with Walt – he definitely nailed it and had no clue how right he was!
About Ethan and what he did off the island – he was definitely a doctor based on his treatment of Claire in the Staff station and also his involvement in recruiting Juliet. If we can believe Ben (and I do in this case) he was actually a surgeon. There was an exchange between Jack and Ben in Season 3 when Jack was going to operate on Ben: Jack questioned why the Others didn’t have a surgeon on the island, and Ben said “We had an excellent surgeon, Jack – his name was Ethan.” Even though Ethan was one of the creepiest characters, I love how we discovered later that even Ethan had a sad back story that made him a more sympathetic character (his wife and child both died during childbirth).
OK that’s it for now, talk to you soon!

Loving this podcast, Darrell & Kari! Thanks for making me remember how much I loved this show. Hope see you next time you’re here for Emerald City Comicon.
I’m also listening (a bit behind) and loving the podcast and rewatch.
Thank you!
Thanks for listening, Matt!
