Miami Vice kicks off our 80’s TV to Movies Triple.  Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx taking over the roles of Crockett and Tubbs.  Police work is never easy but when the danger of work intersects with personal life things get crazy.  Cory and John break down the differences made from the TV show to the movie.

Miami Vice:

Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell) and Ricardo Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) and their team are about to bust a human trafficking ring when they get a call from an informant who is in trouble.  He was involved in a big inter-agency op that has gone bad.  Someone got leverage and his girl was kidnapped.  She was killed and he kills himself.  Crockett & Tubbs meet up with their boss Castillo (Barry Shabaka Henley) and FBI Agent Fujima (Ciarán Hinds).  They are sent undercover to find the leak infiltrate Jose Yero’s (John Ortiz) operation.

They pose a criminals ready to transport anything for the right price.  They meet Jose and Isabella (Li Gong) and quickly learn that Jose is just the middle man.  Jesus Montoya (Luis Tosar) is the man behind the scenes of this global criminal ring.  They work their way in and prove themselves.  Crockett gets involved with Isabella romantically and has to risk it all to save her.  Tubbs is not getting off easy either.  His love, Trudy Joplin (Naomie Harris) has been kidnaped by Jose’s friends in the Arian Brotherhood.  They rescue her but she was badly injured.

Our Miami-Dade PD crew Nicholas (Eddie Marsan), Gina (Elizabeth Rodriguez), Larry (Justin Theroux) with Crockett and Tubbs have to rescue Isabella.  They walk into the trap but are prepared.  The major shootout of the movie happens and our guys prevail.  Crockett sends Isabella into hiding in Cuba from Montoya.  They will not see each other again.  Trudy awakes with Tubbs at her side.

Summary:

I caught the movie on cable as part of movies too rotten to miss feature.  While Colin is no Don Johnson and Foxx is no Philip Michael Thomas, is was a fun ride.  Yes the plot was shaky but it was a good popcorn flick.  Can it stand up the the original series, not in my mind, but it was fun.  So take a listen to Cory & John and see what they think.

Music:

The sound track collects various artist who bring in the wild city feel of Miami. Check out this one that combines Moby & Patti Labelle – “One Of These Mornings.”

Name That Movie:

The clue this week was:  Starting at “The A-Team” and Liam Neeson. Liam also stared in this action movie that spawned a very iconic meme.
Which lead us to the following movie: The movie is “Taken.”
