Welcome to Stuff I Learned Yesterday. My name is Darrell Darnell, I try to never fly without first taking Dramamine, and I believe that if you aren’t learning, you aren’t living. In today’s episode of Stuff I Learned Yesterday I’m pleased to bring you another installment of the Friday Forum.

Today’s Fun Fact: Do you know where Dum Dum candy got their name? Dum Dums were originated by Akron Candy Co., Bellevue, Ohio, in 1924. I.C. Bahr, the early sales manager of the company, named the ball-shaped candy on a stick and figured dum-dums was a word any child could say. The current flavor assortment is: Blueberry, Blu Raspberry, Bubble Gum, Butterscotch, Cherry, Cotton Candy, Cream Soda, Fruit Punch, Grape, Lemon Lime, Orange, Peach-Mango, Root Beer, Sour Apple, Strawberry, Watermelon, and the Mystery Flavor™! Do you know where the mystery flavor comes from? Well, the flavor comes from the overlap of normal flavors when one runs out and another is created. Marketing never tasted so sweet. (From Mental_Floss) Rather than shutting down to clean out the candy equipment between flavors, Spangler turned lemons into lemonade and made pops out of the combination of flavors—the tail end of the old, and the beginning of the new.
