The Sandbox Episode 91 – “The Real Deal” Review
The 100th episode of Agents of SHIELD entitled “The Real Deal” did not disappoint! With plenty of emotional moments, happy and sad, this almost felt like a season (or series) finale. But there’s still plenty of story left to tell, and the stage is set for a remarkable second half of the season.
Join us for show news, commentary and analysis for “The Real Deal”, Faith’s CoulSass moments, and our listener feedback segment! This week we talk about the ups and downs of the so-called fear dimension, the return of Deathlok, the marriage of Fitzsimmons, the parentage of Deke, the positive attitude of Elena, the importance of symbols, and the reactions of May and Daisy to Coulson’s fate.

Darn you Mike and Dave you’ve got me in a pickle this week over the photo banner because on the one hand Jemma looks great but on the other it’s that horrible wedding scene!
“I’m not sure what they could have done better.” – one word Dave – Skimmons! 🙂
With as much as I’ve seen Brett talking about this I thought Ward would have a decent amount of time in the episode but nope so I get Mike saying the guest teases were kind of over hyped. I definitely don’t know how they’re going to top this episode because there was so much good stuff in it; it definitely could have worked as the season finale and certainly the second to last episode…I’m not going to say they can’t top it or be equal at least but it’s going to be a tall order especially after they kind of burned that cool “Coulson on the table” possible twist.
So what do you both think is happening regarding the timeline now…in the episodes we saw Simmons was dead and YoYo had hands to a point but now that they’re back she lost her hands early and now Jemma is Deke’s grandmother so what’s up? Do you feel Jemma was always Deke’s grandmother she just died soon after the daughter was born, although Fitz didn’t look like a grieving father in the flash forwards we saw, so it all still holds true on that point or did the ring just survive time somehow and Deke was meant to find it for her and now somehow they’re both related to him? Will Mack still die or did YoYo somehow change that by losing her arms early? Were the arms in the flash forward fake? If Coulson had to die then does that mean he has to live now as it seems things are happening in an reverse order?
I’m kind of with Dave, I could see the show go post Coulson the way they’ve set things up in this episode; as he said he’d certainly be missed but if you assume he dies on the table because that’s real then they could still have something which happens which forms the team and we start from the beginning kind of, if what he saw was fake and he still dies they’ve set up Daisy to lead, if he lives they could role over on the streaming service Marvel is setting up Daisy having a group there with maybe Jemma and Fitz while May and Coulson retire in the series final so it goes on in that sense but again they have options in play for continuing but also ending the TV run if that weirdly happens this year. If Coulson awakes on the table they could still bump over to the streaming service or because most fans can’t afford all these streaming services to see one thing ABC keeps it on and they restart the series in a sense from the beginning with some event changes so as not be a repeat but being Marvel there are nods back to Coulson’s dream events. I don’t know how that would go over with fans but it would be a bold move. I would miss Coulson but at this point I don’t know if they have to have him to continue the series given all the building up they’ve been doing with Daisy; again even if they don’t kill him he could retire and they move on with him guessing with May at times because I do think if he lives he can get her to go with him.
I took it as Phil telling Fitz to get married even if he died. The number Phil gives Deke to call on the list I think was what brought in Deathlok, it was just a coincidence (and benefit of having the actor for the episode) he dreamed him as well because I don’t think the dream summoned him. Deke didn’t know how to work the number but the message still got through.
I have to give the sass award to Deke or Daisy this week because that orange comment was good and Deke was just hilarious!
It definitely feels like the rip is going to effect the split.
