The Sandbox Episode 72 – The Man Behind the Shield Review
The LMD arc is heating up for its ultimate conclusion in this week’s Agents of SHIELD episode entitled The Man Behind the Shield. While Radcliffe goes off to the Framework presumably to be with Agnes, Aida is left with the dirty work alongside (or perhaps in opposition to) the Superior. With the big reveal at the end, who will end up on top, and how will we get there in only one episode?
Join us for show news, commentary and analysis for The Man Behind the Shield, Faith’s CoulSass moments, and our listener feedback segment! This week we talk about that wonderful flashback for Philinda shippers, the increasingly abrasive Mack, the shifting motivations of Ivanov, the ultimate sass of Coulson, the adjustment of our theories surrounding Aida, and our guesses about the ultimate fate of Fitz and Simmons as they take on four LMDs.

Chloe Bennet’s Instagram reference to the end of the LMD “pod.”
Personally I hate when shows tag a specific character the “moral compass” because just because they have certain traits doesn’t make them the moral compass and it doesn’t mean all viewers will agree with the decisions; taking Mack for example if that’s how the show sees him I find him to be extremely judgmental at times and arguably rude with some of his comments, he also feels narrow minded at times and he just really puts me off personally. If fans want to say X is the “moral compass” for them that’s one thing but when a show does it it usually feels like a set up for disappointment to me; that may be because the “moral compasses” on shows I’ve seen haven’t been the best examples compared to other characters but that term just turns me off personally. I don’t know if S.H.I.E.L.D. has a current moral compass and that’s okay although if you HAD to name someone I’d get picks for Coulson or Mace right now.
Disagree about romantic Fitzsimmons adding to the show, but that’s not surprising. 🙂 It would have been fun to see the 084 but at the same time I kind of like it was just one of a hundred he’s gotten – important but not as big as others which is realistic. I don’t know where Ming goes to pull out these performances, but she kills the Bahrain stuff…not to know her other work on the series but there’s Bahrain and then everything else for the series.
Shirtless Mace part 2 was just as enjoyable as the first one! 😀
It is going to be a bummer to lose Aida when it happens because of how good a bad guy she’s been! Yo-Yo would be cool to see helping Jemma and Fitz as her speed could be useful against multiple LMDs; painful Skimmons thought – what if Jemma has to take out LMDaisy? Yay for Chloe and Elizabeth working together but “No!” in part for my heart; I think I’d be okay because Daisy would want Jemma safe so she’d get taking out LMD her. 🙂
This was a great Coulson sass episode for sure; I vote for “Game” in the CoulSass poll!
A Jemma solo mission (with potential help from YoYo? That would be awesome! Given the Darkhold bleed I could see Robbie coming back in the 3rd arc of the season. Agree with Taltos regarding Mack; so many fair questions about the ending. “I don’t care who you are – Daisy don’t go down easy!” – ha; true!
