Rama Khan is a god. He orchestrated some of the most enormous tragedies in history. Noah’s flood, the volcano in Pompeii, even the demise of the dinosaurs can all be traced back to him. Now he wants to cleanse the World. Take out mankind for the crime of existing. In his eyes humans are simply abusing the Earth and squandering it’s resources. The council is not happy with Rama Khan’s recent performance. Perhaps they will put someone else in charge. Will the next Elder in charge condemn Earth 38 to a worse fate?
Lena Luthor also wants to change the World. She doesn’t have dreams of fire and destruction. Her plan is one where the whole World will bend to her will. She calls it Operation Non Nocere “ Do no Harm “. Lena is going to exploit Malefic’s powers and Kara’s trust to mind control the entire population! Supergirl is not willing to give up hope that Lena can be saved and put back on the right path. Kara pleads with Lena to not allow her mistake to plunge Lena down a path of darkness.
The director of the DEO can’t let emotions make her decisions now. Love has left Alex somewhat distracted in the past few weeks. Her sister is too emotionally entangled in this situation. It is Alex who must look at the Myriad situation objectively. Brainy is by her side running a series of probabilities but in the end it is Alex’s decision. Can she trust that Malefic is strong enough to defeat the mind control Q waves? Is Malefic sincere in wanting to help them in penance for his past deeds? Is Kara right? Can Lena be saved or must she pay for her decisions with her life?
Andrea Rojas wants to stop working for Leviathan. Something tells me this is not the sort of job you can walk away from. Rama Khan needs the power on Acrata to power the shadow staff. He wants to use his Earth moving power to awaken a sleeping giant residing under National City. There is a Supervolcano right under their feet. Supergirl must get to the tar pits fast before there is an explosion that by Brainy’s calculations will be 10,000 times bigger than Pompeii!
Malefic kept his word and helped the DEO neutralize Myriad without the use of the Claymore satellite. When they went to the base to arrest Lena Hope said it was all her fault. Was this part of Lena’s plan all along? Did she develop this program and integrate it into Eve’s body so that she would have someone to assume responsibility and keep herself out of jail?
J’onn gave Alex some great advice in this episode. People are going to make mistakes. You have to give them a chance to do better. Give them the opportunity to step back into the light. I am so glad that Supergirl is a Hero that never loses hope. We are going to need that in the crisis to come. I will keep my eye to the sky. We are going to need all of our super friends. The consequences of the coming crisis could be infinite!

Hello Maid of Steel podcasters: puppy rescuer Monty here.
Who are the puppies? I guess we can list the characters; Miss Tessmacher/Hope{less}, Lena, Andrea Rojas, and possibly Alex as the puppies. Puppy kickers? How about Rhama Khan’t shamalangadingdong and J’onn, the Big Dumb Martian, who through scenery chewing and scripted terrible lines manage to mangle the clear moral and ethical imperatives in play?
As a side note, Shouldn’t the puppy, Alex, have aimed Claymore (Missed you Big Gal!) at Rhama Khan’t shamalangadingdong… first? Then she can shift targets and hammer Norway… er… Norquay.
“People make mistakes and they do terrible things.” I glommed onto that bit of dialog as I tried to make sense of this offal (Means manure.) episode. “We have to let them do better.” The problem, is that sometimes the people who need to do better, are the idiots who tell us, that we must not expect restitution as the communal balance for the evil doers we are expected to forgive.
————————————————————————
Yeah… I’ve been on this third rock for a while, and I’ve seen the genocidal maniacs and mind control whackos in real life, some of them up close and personal. Somehow it never occurs to some people that is WHY you have and need Claymore.
“The method of collective punishment so far has proved effective.” Moshe Dayan
He refers to Egyptian wars of aggression and the needed punishments that finally stopped those wars.
“I never challenged the ICC verdict. This means I accepted my punishment. It is mentioned in Islamic law that you have got to be punished if you commit a mistake. What is important is that I have learnt my lesson.” Mohammad Amir
Muhammed Amir was one of the cruel butchers who mass-murdered innocents during the Mumbai Atrocity in India. What makes his statement so poignant is that he NEEDED the “punishment” to snap him out of his state of insanity and bring him back to reality. The “collective consensus” of a community to punish is not properly done out of hate or a desire for vengeance, but as an act of societal will to make the evil-doer realize that he/she has actually done evil and must somehow give up something personal to restore the balance to the social compact for him/her to return to it.
It is indicative that NOWHERE in this episode, does any real evil-doer; Malefic, Supergirl, Alex, J’onn, or even Lena give back in due proportion for the genocides, mind manipulations, attempted murders, and lies they commit. It is up to Andrea Brooks, as Hope[less], to take on the burden and pay down on Lena, the evil-doer, as the one act of social redemption and even that is done as a Lena-coerced act of evil-tude. Ironic is it not, that Miss Tessmacher is the sacrificial lamb?
As for Rhama Khan’t: the raving lunatic; the only price he pays for his continued failures is that he is demoted within the ranks of Leviathan by the manipulative Gamennae’s clever machinations. What a message to send to the audience; that evil prospers by being clever, wiley and ingenious. Might say the Jon Cryer coda with the Aunty Monitor is more of that same garbage morality on display, with even Aunty giving us a big fat lie to justify our chess-playing bald-headed monster. (Which Baldy? Aunty or Lex? Pick one; you won’t be wrong.).
So, no surprise, is it, that I rate the episode -20/-20/-20 out of 5/5/5 for bad acting (Especially Melissa Benoist), bad directing (as in lack of vision by the director of this episode) and horrendous writing (as in missing the point, by which I mean the writers of this episode, who really need a class in philosophy and human morality, because they just don’t get it: why we have our laws and a justice system.).
Later Ladies and Evil-doers.

=========================================
I give it again, for comment, because I strongly feel this could have been dropped into the 4th season and not been too out of mean for the results we got. The message got in the way of story again.
“J’onn gave Alex some great advice in this episode.” – umm, this is debatable I feel; I mean on the one hand I get it and he’s correct but on the other how many chances do you give some especially when they’ve committed attack on attack against you? Would J’onn be so open minded if you will about Mal had he not been swayed by Lena’s tech? Something the show continues to just ignore happened and could be playing a part in his desire to do good and with that in play how do you trust someone is being real and not just playing a next step in their plan? Hope works for Kara but I think Alex is a great character to explore the flip side of the hope debate and at least pose the question of what if this isn’t the way you see it; again for me it felt like they were holding Alex back to fit the plot more than how she would be realistically but maybe that’s me. I don’t want to ruin the sister’s dynamic either but I do think it’s organic they would have disagreed more than they did in this episode and maybe moving forward depending on the topic.
Yay the polls are back! 😀
On to the podcast…
See you in the crossover discussion Karen! 🙂
K Vox is going to bark? ?? Where do I send the 5 ? John? 🙂
Definite props to Melissa for sharing her story; she is Supergirl! ?????
Sorry to hear about your grandmother Geoff, but I’m happy to hear she had a good life.
So much accuracy about Alex Darryl! I also agreed I fully get Lena saying Kara shouldn’t have treated her like a villain, aka Luthor, because again while Kara may not have intentionally done that by not trusting her seemingly Lena took it as she won’t tell her because of her last name which in the one hand she can get but on the other it does feel like being left out because of her last name. If she was Lena Smith would it have taken so long for Kara to tell her? I get being cautious with Luthors but Lena isn’t her family, it’s definitely a more complex situation than some are making it out to be and sadly they aren’t really going there story wise to show that be it due to length timing or because they just didn’t plan that out for some reason but it’s definitely a loss not to tackle gray situations like this. #LenaIsGood!
The thing with the sisters fighting is the writers don’t have to take it to Extremeville to pull it off, they can disagree on a point and not get over it as John said without turning against each other – Alex doesn’t have to be treated like the villain because she disagrees with Kara and Kara doesn’t have act naive just to show she’s the “right” choice if they go that way instead of letting viewers decide who they think is right in the situation. You can still have sister game night and moments on the couch but just know if that topic comes up there will be a fight and explore how do you get past that or agree to disagree. The best thing about an ensemble show is you can also use this debate to expand other characters by showing who agrees with Alex and who agrees with Kara and who thinks both have valid points and it doesn’t have to be the ones you’d think, for example you might think being logical as he is Brainy would side with Alex for a lot of situations but maybe because he’s experiencing emotions more he sided with Kara on whatever the case is…maybe we see Lena and Alex actually bonding over agreeing on the choice instead of just hearing Alex say they’re friends! Again it would be interesting to see but I’m not holding my breath that it happens.
I vote Kelly-Kara Leslie as they haven’t really been shown spending time together and it’s important they get along some because if you date one sister you date the other in a round about way so you want to get along, also it would give Kelly something to do besides be Alex’s girlfriend; in fact, Kelly therapy sessions for everyone because this group needs it! 🙂 Then Kelly does drinks with Nia because I want to see more of that friendship.
Why are you just doing the first 3 hours? Why not hold off and do the full roundtable when the final part airs? Would there be a jam between crossover episode recording and normal episode recording? Again the crossover schedule just makes no sense; but yeah if you’re not going to do just “Supergirl”‘s hour because you think it’s set up for more why not wait until the full crossover because what if something big goes down in hour 4 – are you going to wait until the next solo episode to talk about it? I’m glad you’re doing a roundtable but the logistics don’t make sense to me I have to say John.
“Everyone is coming to Earth 38, how about that?!” – go home Barry. 🙂 Kevin Conroy as Bruce is another reason to care about the crossover, still I’m not that into it. I just feel I probably won’t like the consequences of the event, like Barry will probably be able to effect us now and I’m still mad about baby Sara y’all – Barry Allen is not to be trusted! It won’t happen I know but if we’re getting all these JL cartoon actors on, Phil was John Stewart (Green Lantern) Carl was J’onn (Martian Manhunter) and Kevin is Bruce (Batman), can we get Susan Eisenberg in an episode as Diana aka Wonder Woman? Diana is the only Trinity member no on screen in some form yet or really mentioned; it’s time she get her due I think and either is a guest or we hear our J’onn talking about this awesome Amazonian he’s met recently and the sisters ooh and ahh over her because cannon. 🙂
This year’s crossover scheduling is SO dumb! Seriously what is the point of a split that wide?! What is wrong with knocking it all out next week doing one episode a day or just waiting until the first real week in Jan and knocking it out then? Either way you miss the holiday stuff if that’s what you’re worried about? It’s not like they’re strangers to taking weird breaks in the middle of the seasons as they do it for awards shows all the time so what’s the difference in doing all of the crossover now then there being a gap between the next solo episodes – they’re solo episodes. You’re going to have to reair the first 3 parts anyway with a gap that big because fans are going to forget what happened since it’s been almost a month by the time parts 4 and 5 air so again why not just show it all at one time? I do not understand this scheduling choice.
E10 is going to feature Megan Rath according to Jesse and I’m so excited for that!
I wonder if “It’s A Super Life” will be their take on “It’s A Wonderful Life” and feature all the clichés that come with that? Like what if Kara had told Lena who she was in S2? What if Alex was engaged to Sam who’s Kara’s backup fill in because J’onn is working part time as a Justice League founder? What if Kara never came to Earth because Krypton wasn’t destroyed?! Ok so that would be interesting to see who she’d be but we’d definitely have to have or mains play other characters as you can’t have the 100th episode be devoid of them, especially Alex. David could actually still be J’onn who’s on vacation there or hunting down someone there. Here’s to 100 more! 😀
Keep feeling better Justina!
