It’s been a long summer, but we’re finally back! In this season 2 preview of Supergirl, Karen (Scarlet Cougar) and I (Emilee, a.k.a. Miss Ice) scrounge up all the information that dripped out of the CW’s sieve this summer. From casting news to plot teases to epic crossover announcements, we’re covering it all! And, what’s this, Miss Ice has read comics Scarlet Cougar hasn’t?! (Not yet, anyway. She hasn’t read them yet.)

In this podcast there will be heavy discussion and speculation about the upcoming season of Supergirl, including plot lines raised in the season 3 premiere of The Flash. If you have not yet seen the premiere of The Flash, I highly recommend you go do that before listening. We warn before dropping any spoilers, but in the anticipation of the upcoming season there are some peripheral storylines that will be useful to know! If you are not tracking with the other CW Superhero shows, then hopefully we will tell you what you need to know or be aware of, conceptually, before the new season begins.

Season 2 Preview

The biggest casting news that came out over the summer is no doubt Tyler Hoechlin being cast as Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman. In the promos released featuring the Superman character, all we can say at this point is that Tyler seems to be a great inclusion to the cast and the character coming at a great point in the series’ run. Regular contributor TeamHuntress wrote in to the podcast this week and shared an article published by Den of Geek, in which they sit down with showrunner Ali Adler to ask some of the hot-button questions, like what Superman’s presence will mean for the show and representing strong, female characters.

Other key roles announced this summer include:

mos-22-potus

Lynda Carter as the President (heretofore, POTUS)
Noteable roles:

  • Wonder Woman (1975)
  • Fallout 4 (the video game)
  • Sky High
mos-22-maggie-sawyer

Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer
Noteable roles:

  • Poor Paul
  • The Mob Doctor
  • Allegiance
mos-22-snapper-carr

Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr
Noteable roles:

  • The Drew Carey Show
  • My Big Fat Greek Wedding
  • Cougar Town

Invasion! by Keith Giffen & Bill Mantlo

One of the most epic DC crossover events ever!
Resilient. Overpowering. Unstoppable. By their very nature, our planet’s superheroes have become a threat to the rest of the universe. Now, an alliance has formed between the fiercest, most calculating alien races to pursue a single goal: the elimination of Earth’s guardians.
As war erupts all over the world, Superman leads the charge against these would-be alien conquerors. Can our planet’s greatest champions repel an army of invaders, each with the strength to rival the Man of Steel? One thing is certain: surrender is not an option!
Commanding the troops are writers Keith Giffen (JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL, THE NEW 52: FUTURES END) and Bill Mantlo (THE INCREDIBLE HULK), with art by comics superstar Todd McFarlane (SPIDER-MAN, SPAWN) and Bart Sears (WARLORD). Collects INVASION! #1-3.

The Dominators

The Dominators

Last year, for the second episode, Karen recommended we read Invasion in order to get to know Maxwell Lord just a little bit. For the lead-in to the second season, Karen says it may be a good idea to re-familiarize ourselves with this storyline as Marc Guggenheim has indicated the villains used in this collection were the influence for the opening arc this season.

To buy, go to Amazon (Comixology) or DC Comics.
