The story of Kal El is one we have known for many years. The destruction of Krypton was imminent and Jor El made a desperate plan to save his son. What I didn’t know is that the baby boy that became Superman was not the only child of the House Of El to escape the explosion. Kara Zor El was sent to protect her infant cousin. However the best laid plans can often be blown off course.
Kara was propelled into the Phantom Zone where she slept for 24 years. When her pod finally fell to Earth it towed with it some of the galaxy’s most dangerous criminals. Fort Rozz was full of aliens angry with Alura Zor El for taking their freedom. It looks as though the sins of the mother will be paid for by the daughter. Luckily Kara is not alone. She has been raised by the Danvers family where she formed an in breakable bond with her adoptive sister Alex.
A plane crashing with Alex on board causes Kara to reveal what powers the Earth’s yellow sun has given to her. Alex has a secret too. She works for the Department of Extranormal Operations. It is an organization designed to keep Earth safe from alien threats. Maybe having an alien on their team would be helpful.

At the time, though we did not get the information upfront when Kara tells Winn that only 3 people know her secret, it is Kara assumed that Jeremiah Danvers is D.E.A.D. That means we have 3 people who Kara knows are aware she is Kryptonian; Liza her foster mother, Alex her foster sister, and her JERK cousin who dumped Kara off at the Danvers, because he could not be bothered with her.

Jeremiah knows Kara is Kryptonian Monty, one) Clark dropped her off and said it’s his cousin and two) even if Kara had wandered up to the Danvers residence alone Jeremiah busted her using her powers once and built the glasses for her when he powers started acting up so he’s known since her arrival she’s Kryptonian.
If you go by how many people know she’s Supergirl at that point it’s still not 3 because only Alex knew she saved the plane and James could guess it would be her they were trying to identify so that’s only 2. Clark might suspect it was her who saved the day if he read the news but we’re never confirmed that so for all he knows Kara is still laying low and thus it’s 2. If there’s some expected association that Clark saw the news then yes at that moment it would be 3 people who knew she’s Supergirl…unless you count Eliza seeing the news because then it’s up to 4.
If you go back to how many people know she’s Kryptonian that’s 5 because at that point it was Alex, Eliza, Jeremiah, Clark, and James.
3 is just incorrect no matter how you look at it. 🙂

I’m with Justina, I for some reason remember there being a debate about David’s second character and I want to think it went a good 2 to 3 episodes in the series before they committed to J’onn. So 1-3 at least he feels different and then once they commit to J’onn he levels out into the Space Dad we love.
I’m definitely thankful that the show was on CBS for season one because it allowed them the best debut suit of them all, to their credit Stargirl’s costume is great as well but Kara’s suit out of the block looked amazing, and we got a really quality production. Now that said I feel writing can be quality no matter your budget, in fact the less money you have the more you should lean into it for time filler by embracing character moments (which should be your starting point anyways as that’s why fans return not because you have X amount of fights in the week), so again they need to step it back up writing quality wise on this series but the rest you can tell there’s a shift in production but it’s not horrible (until season 5 which I still ask was that meant to be a throwaway season because they were more focused on Crisis or not because if it’s not y’all did horrible…even if it was why are you phoning it in so hard? Ugh season 5 was so bad) so I’d say they were okay moving to the CW at the start. I am glad it moved to the CW too because it got us lesbian Alex Danvers which I don’t think we would have gotten on a CBS season two because CBS is not known for having queer characters in their series so there’s definitely some pluses and minuses to each network. I know there was some staff changes between seasons two and one so it would be cool to see the season one writing team back and what they can do with the CW budget but even with as bad as season 5 was I’d still say on the whole our series is one of the best, if not the best, series in the DCTV universe.
“Arrow” would have been going into season four when “Supergirl” started. I remember thinking the show was fun and I wanted to see more during the pilot! And of course loving Melissa as Kara. 🙂

Kara’s OTP is Alex for sure! Romantically though I’m going with Adam because again I debate who does James actually love in season one – Kara or Supergirl.

Again as much as they’ve tried to shove Clark into “Supergirl” the least “Superman & Lois” can do is have some cast over there and play big parts in episodes so why not have it be Eliza reminding Clark about how they worked with his power if a kid starts to display it?

“We would not have gotten Lena if not for the fact Lex is tied to Superman” – umm, I disagree John; true they may have gone cliché with Lena if they didn’t have Lex to play around with so she would have been a villain instead of the anti hero like she is but I think she could have been on there without him. Honestly if you edit Clark out of season two nothing changes to the point you see he’s needed to make something happen; Lena brought Lex into play it’s true but we never needed Clark to bring Lena into play in order for all of that to happen. Also they could have wrote her in because they just wanted to, you don’t need Clark to make Lena happen. Kara lifted a space station on her back in season one she could have stopped the shuttle without him so nice try, but I’m still no to Clark actually being on this series. 🙂
Lena’s good because Katie McGrath kicks ass acting let’s just call it what it is; she takes some of the most insane writing for Lena and makes it work as much as it ever could so I feel any debate that says it’s more Katie we love than Lena actually is a fair one.
Lillian is connected to Lena – again you don’t need Clark to make Luthor plots happen you just write Lena in like they did, the only difference is he’s not filmed in scenes with Kara…everything stays the same. Again nods to Superman products is one thing and mentioning Clark by name at times makes sense as they are related but I have just never felt we actually needed Clark Kent on the series.
the character of adam is forever tainted in the tv show world because he is played by blake jenner. adam is no otp for kara

Woo “Person Of Interest” mention; boo POI, they know what they did in that final season. No spoilers for those who haven’t seen the series yet as it’s a great series, if you love continuity it’s a MUST see, but yeah I’ll always be mad about a certain aspect of the final season. You may know what I’m talking about John; a bonus though for “Supergirl” fans, Gamemna is in the series as a badass named Martine who you will both love and hate at the same time because of things Martin’s does. The God Mode fight between she and Root in the hotel lobby – SO GOOD!
“We so need Cat Grant back on this show.” – seconded!

“Stargirl”‘s season one is giving “Supergirl” season one a run for its money in being the best season of a DC show so it might tie it at the end of the day but it will NEVER beat it because “Supergirl” season one is pretty perfect. Again to me the only way season one could have been better is if they had queer Alex Danvers from the start! As you said John season one of “Supergirl” is pretty perfect; again I know everyone is getting all hyped for “Stargirl”‘s season one but while I am enjoying it I personally don’t see it as something new as “Supergirl” did this also in their first season. We had quality in character writing too, we had story more written to character than action too, we have the best debut suit arguably, we have a longer season, and our rogue’s gallery is the best without question plus our characters rock too so yeah for me right now the rankings would go 1) “Supergirl”, 2) “Stargirl”, and 3) “Batwoman” – all season ones of course because those are the best seasons so far of each series. I hope “Stargirl” can continue their overall quality writing but to say it’s the best ever after one season feels fast…every fan thought their favorite of the list was the best until they went into more seasons and quality slacked off it seems so yeah “Stargirl” season two could be it’s “Supergirl” season 5; this is why I love you saying people need to respect “Supergirl” more John and love your passion in doing so because is “Stargirl” good? Yes. Is it doing something incredibly new for the DCTV universe? No. “Supergirl” has a pretty much perfect season one too!
“Arrow” season three on the whole might challenge “Batwoman” season one on the whole for 3rd spot, but I feel comfortable saying “Supergirl” and “Stargirl” season ones are the top two things in DCTV so far.
I definitely miss the old suit! Maybe it’s because her suit now mirrors Clark’s suit they gave him for this show and so that turns me off to it also but it just feels so meh in comparison. It’s not horrible and it’s still not the worst suit someone has ever had to put on (GET Alex OUT OF THAT GARBAGE) but it’s not original suit either; again I get protecting Melissa but honestly I do miss the skirt.

LOL, no one is picking an episode from season five John as a favorite. Ha, that’s hilarious. 🙂 I assumed the discussion list was being done by how many votes an episode received, like “Pilot” was rated high on all the lists so it’s first, along with being the pilot, and “Livewire” would be next because it was the next highest rated episode on lists; I’m going to guess “Midvale” might be after it because it was really good but yeah I figured the list was done by how many times an episode is picked and where it’s picked on lists.

Jeremiah meets J’onn J’onzz.
While on a mission to locate J’onn J’onzz in a remote location in Peru, he realized J’onn wasn’t a threat but a refugee. Jeremiah tried to stop the mission but Hank became obsessed and refused to. When Hank finally trapped J’onn, Jeremiah sacrificed his life to stop Hank. As he apparently died, J’onn made a promise to take care of Jeremiah’s daughters.[5]

J’onn! That’s another who knows before Kara tells Winn because he told Alex when he first met her he knew how she got the scar on her arm; so yeah 3 still doesn’t make sense because even if you say Kara still doesn’t count Jeremiah there is J’onn. Well Hank as Kara would know him at the time; even if you don’t count J’onn because Kara didn’t know who he really was at the time there’s still Alex, Eliza, James and Clark which is four. 🙂
5 if you imagine Clark telling Lois about Kara but he ditched her real fast and in a hurry so I doubt he was quick to tell her what happened; Lois is smart though so she would probably put it together before he even told her.
“Do you miss Supergirl’s skirt?” – honestly yes; I’m all for keeping Melissa safe which means pants but I do miss the skirt. I think the suit just looks better with it. It would be great if they could film inside and have her back in the skirt again doing J’onn as Kara because he refuses to go pants that day as a nod to the skirt once more. 🙂

Ugh, I actually was bothered by Winn being relieved Kara might be a lesbian as to why she doesn’t like him and that started turning me off to Winn I have to say, it’s probably why on top of other instances I wasn’t that broken up to see him go in season three. Someone doesn’t have to be queer to not like you it can be for other reasons such as maybe they just don’t see you the same way romantically. He wasn’t a horrible guy but some of Winn’s reactions to things really rubbed me the wrong way and that is the first time for sure; I still groan and want to punch him in the face during that line.
I look forward to your case John; maybe you can convince me it’s really Kara James loves fully and not just her powers because I have to be honest I question that at times especially as he went in knowing who she is and we know he had a love to wanting to be Clark almost so I feel it’s fair to ask does James love Kara or Supergirl and yes those two are different.

“To be fair Supergirl in the comics doesn’t have a known rogues gallery exactly…” – true John but that’s all the more reason to showcase the villains she does have – give them some spotlight. Not everything has to revolve around the Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman)! Look at DCTV for the CW, they started with Oliver Queen because they couldn’t get the rights to Bruce Wayne and look what has all come from that…we have a whole television universe so why not embrace the lesser known rogues and comic story plots as it were?
I completely get using Clark related stuff in season one, but my issue comes from the fact they continue to lean on it instead of bringing in more of Kara’s stuff or expanding on Clark’s stories from Kara’s POV because despite what they may think Kara is NOT Clark so even if you put them in the same story the outcomes should be somewhat different. Again “For The Girl Who Has Everything” is a perfect example of taking a Clark plot but working it to Kara instead of doing the same old thing and I think fans want that back not them testing Clark series stuff out on Kara’s show you know? Again the writers should be mandated to watch season one at least 3 times again before writing the next season so they can see what fans love and how to have Clark in the world but remember “Supergirl” is not about him.
The DEO is not gone!
With how much they’ve pushed Clark on “Supergirl” I wonder if we’ll see our characters popping up on his show and Kara getting tons of mentions on the “Superman & Lois” show? It seems only fair. J’onn for sure makes sense to split time on there as he’s friends with Clark and has fatherhood experience he could provide them.
You forgot to mention Callista in the main cast list John…you really are Maxwell Lord! How do you forget Cat Grant like that?! *angry face* Bad “John”!
Melissa and Chyler have definitely embraced the sister dynamic and as they’ve said before in panels they really do love each other like sisters so this is just natural to them and they wouldn’t want to be with anyone else in these moments. The Danvers sisters are adorable together and so are the actors who play theme 🙂
Awe, listen to that upbeat background music during John’s clip; also the character development and a happy Kara. Seriously what has happened writers, where is this in our seasons now? Season one is the best season of the show so far without question!

I tend to have a more jaundiced view of J’onn J’onzz, because I think the writers made a mistake moving him out of the DEO. I also think that as of Season 4, Big Daddy Martian has become Big Useless Martian.

I did not like the suit. It was a cheesy cheer leader outfit when I first saw it and it looked out of place in our era where we could have made a better choice for the presentation of a working design for the woman super-hero. Represent her as a positive human role model image in fashion as in everything else. Remember General Lane’s words from “Red Faced”? “The only difference between her and the monsters you got locked up downstairs, Henshaw, is that she looks like a Blond cheer leader.” That is an inside the series sexist character criticism of Supergirl. Superman gets to be dressed in his head to toe iconic circus strong man super-suit, why not suit the fashion of a uniform for Kara? She can wear something like this:

General Sam Lane from “Red Faced” about James again; “You think you are special, James, because you attach yourself to special people. But you are wrong. Being around special people does not make you special.” That sums up character insight about the way, Mehcad Brooks was deliberately and systematically writer mishandled throughout the series until he moved on to another project where he could at least try to portray a better character.
Adam, the character, should be phantom zoned and forgotten. I disliked the actor and the man that much. Negative Q.

Aging is an actor problem. You will see it in “Wonder Woman 1984” as you saw it in the Avengers Movies. Run six or so movies across a decade and one can see how a character changes and ages in a medium and mythic story-telling where the characters are not supposed to age. How many different actors have played Batman (Badly, I might add.) over the last 15 years?

Garbage writing does require great acting to sell it. Have you seen “Lost in Space”? Not the cheese with Jonathan Frid as Doctor Smith. I mean the GOOD ONE with the great Doctor Smith from Netflix? That actress took some bad (as in horrible Derek Simon villain chewing scenery type.) writing and made herself a 3-d role that makes you remember her. The writers were forced to write her as a complex human being instead of villain relief after she out-acted the robot.

Hmm. If I had to rank them…
–Flash. The season with Nora as the best Arrowverse season so far.
–Stargirl. This season has given us Icicle, who is the most fully developed Bond villain, I have ever seen and Pat Dugan, the most solid functioning adult in an Arrowverse show, and that includes “Black Lightning”.
–Arrow. The season with the duel between Ollie and Slade Wilson. Best villain and hero contest so far in the Arrowverse….
–Supergirl. Reign. Just edged out by Arrow.
–Legends. Season when Captain Cold eats the weenie. Kind of a tragicomedy that one.
–Black Lightning. Love Jefferson Pierce, but the series never takes risks like Flash or Stargirl.
–Batwoman: I love Ruby Rose, but she wound up in a trash fire. I so dislike the way the series has mistreated its principles, botched up a potentially good story and performed an amateur hit an rundown on production and the nuts and bolts of craft of film-making. It is an insult to people who actually tried to do good work on that rotten show.

Colors are used like code words on this show. ‘Blue’ is the ‘heroic’ color. Red is the OPFOR. Do I like that kind of propaganda application? I would call it disguised messaging, except it is not subtle at all. Hence I find it annoys me, specifically when it is thrown like mud into my face. I very much resented that garbage message and that insult with the yellow Star of David misused to badge the “Agents of Liberty” fascistic organization.
There is that most specific reason I dislike Derek Simon, intensely and regard his so-called work in Season 4 with extreme distaste.

Jeremy Jordan is an actor delivering the garbage a writer supplied him through the camera. Blame the writer for writing it as a sexist cliché line and the director for allowing it to stand as delivered.

WORLD OF NEW KRYPTON was a major Supergirl centric plot. Reign was a Supergirl plot. The Ixnians, bad as it was with Zor-el as Cyborg Super-garbage-man, was a Supergirl plot. Brainiac and Argo City was a Supergirl plot. Atlantis Arisen was a Supergirl plot. There are 60 years of stories to mine. Good stories and the occasional Ixnian garbage story, too. Heck there was a real good one, a story actually called “Red Daughter” that features one of my favorite lanterns, Guy Gardner.

I can see how Adam would be problematic for you Daryl; I agree the actor did bad but the character didn’t and I liked Adam in his stuff so I’d like to see him back and again it’s a way to have Chris back if Melissa wants but he doesn’t play Mon because I don’t want to see that character again…certainly not with Kara.
Again I’m all for Kara never having a romantic OTP on the show and just dating around because women can do that too; especially if you subscribe to the idea that Clark and Kara age differently from humans being on Earth (there is that debate of do they age the same or not) what’s her rush? Even if you say she ages normally still what is the rush? Look how long it took J’onn to find someone again or for Diana to find Bruce after Steve (and she’s still got a soft spot for him really)! Better to wait and be right then just hook up with someone because you feel you have to because society says by X age you should have been married at least once. Yes there is the element of what if she’s lonely but again there’s dating – she doesn’t have to be with an OTP unless they are her OTP; plus if you never show who she ends up with then she can be with anyone the fans want…if you like Kara/Lena, she ends up with Lena, if you like James/Kara she’s with James and if it’s someone else it’s that person. I mean we all know Kara’s OTP is Alex right, she’s her heart, so what’s the rush to have a romantic OTP?
Just because Oliver and Barry are married doesn’t mean Kara has to; that would certainly be something new to see on series – the guys marrying young on series while the female characters in the universe don’t rush it. 🙂 Except Alex, but I still feel that proposal to Maggie was a rush job brought on by Kara’s panic instead of her really wanting to ask at the end of season two. If you want a young female marriage there’s Sara who’s basically with either Nyssa or Ava so yeah Kara can date around!
Alex and J’onn can be “Supergirl”‘s cannon romance ships, let Kara have fun and do romance plots with everyone but if someone’s getting married on the show let it be Alex or J’onn.
Now okay if there’s a person who it’s just totally clear is perfect for Kara and the fandom loves then maybe you do them as her romantic OTP but I doubt we’ll see that as Kara’s options since season one have not been great. Yes you can say “There’s Lena!” but sorry SuperCorp fans, I just can’t see them going there; it would be something new if they did but I don’t see their on screen show dynamic being more than just friends. It’s just more interesting to me to have single Kara who dates around because it’s so rare we see that with female characters; Kara may never have a romantic OTP and again that’s okay because maybe she’s better going from one relationship to the next as there’s something about each which can grow her into the best version of herself and at the end of the day that’s what makes her happy versus being with one specific person you know?
If I have to pick a romantic OTP though right now I do like Adam; I do need to see if he can handle the Supergirl side of Kara because that’s important to do but I think he’s an option for sure. James is a maybe…I really need to know though if it’s Supergirl he’s in love with or Kara because that’s a major hang up with me; Supergirl is what Kara can do but Kara is who she is as the line goes so is it just being close to the powers that excited James or is it the girl who wields them? If they hadn’t put Brainy with Nia I would want to see Brainy/Kara because they can be adorable together and are technically the married pair in some of the comics.
Although there’s a question: why are we just picking from the “Supergirl” roster? I’ve seen some people write fan fiction where she’s with Barry; now we know he’s with Iris happily but the idea is a fair one to present – what if Kara’s romantic endgame is someone not on her own series? I don’t watch all of the series so I don’t know all of the options currently available but it’s a fair question to ask; I can’t think of anyone I would put her with from the shows I do watch but still…write it in if you think of someone!

Review: It is hard to make sense of this Bridger episode. The Title says “Shining Knight” and the lesson is that heroes come from anywhere; but they have to believe in their heroism. So this episode is not so much about Justin who pursued the Dragon King to Blue Valley and was taken by the ISA and in ironic cruelty; suffered death of personality at the hands of Braindead Sr. and Doctor Ito.

Courtney is the shining knight. But she has hurdles in her reach to the next level of her responsibility and her power. She has to have her illusions about herself shattered. She has to deal with her guilt (and it is a genuine guilt, for though she did not murder Braindead Jr. and Joey (Wizard Jr); she has to recognize that her heroics were causal factors that prompted the villains to kill.
Then she has to have her mythology about her delusional origin story wiped out and erased. Sam Kurtis is half of Courtney’s DNA. Who is Sam Kurtis? Dad. Apparently Sam came by to grift (a term meaning to con family members out of money or valuables, usually to finance some criminal activity contemplated by the grafter.) Long story short, Courtney gives up her locket and her “memories” of her supposed dad. This shatters her and she loses faith. The staff will not work for her.
I suppose at some point, she would have to come to terms with her “self” and figure out that it is she who the staff loves and serves, not some imagined genetic or noble blood descended legacy. But this is a 42 minute episode and the struggle to reconcile self with belief in self has to be hurried along. Janitor Justin is therefore part of this story as a shorthand storyteller of another hero who went through what Courtney traverses now. He is both triumph and tragedy, as the example, because though he is The Shining Knight and his valor at one crucial desperate time saved the world as the leader of The Seven Soldiers of Victory and he is the legacy of King Arthur, HE is what happens to good men who rise to the call, and then are spent in the service of Good. I would call that the same exact fate John Philip Sheridan of Babylon 5 suffers, and I do mean the word “suffer”.
Sorry, Geoff Johns, like J. Michael Stracynski, can bring tears to my eyes as balladeers who sing great tales. Cause I KNOW this story. I’ve seen it in real life, not just fiction. And I see people who have asked me WHY it is so. And all I can tell them, is it is the price of admiralty…

I suspect that it is far too late for that; Mr. Frosty, cause Courtney CHOSE her parents, chose her origin, chose her belief and finally accepted the grim price the staff offered her.

The Lena V Kara fight which started in season 3 because…manufactured drama, let’s just call it what it is, because Kara had no issues with Lena up until that point. You have the questionable characterization of memory blocked Alex in season four. The just crazy rewrite of Alex’s opinion on Jeremiah in season 5; I love “Supergirl” but they really need to get their act back together quality writing wise!
Continuity matters people!!!
Heck if they could get back to the writing quality that season two even had where yes I hated the Mon plot but at least characters choices made sense on the whole then that would be a start. Ideally we want them back to season one quality but we have to start somewhere. Sam was done overall well, she just lacked screen time, in season 3 so just learn to do characters well again like that and then go into season two story plot quality writing and that way maybe we’ll come back to season one level or at least close to it. It’s a bummer having more down points to the series now than uppers but this is where we are; season one was awesome, season two was decent, season three was ok, season four was questionable and season five was just horrific so yeah I’m going to seem a bit more bitter talking about the series.
I’ve seen season one and the Reign plot line from season 3 and Alex’s coming out storyline in season two so I know they can do quality when they put in the effort so it’s frustrating to see things fall short like they have recently. Season five especially felt like there was no care for things and that’s annoying. I get plots not reaching fans like writers hope so I don’t even fault them for trying Leviathan but what I do fault them for is having Leviathan feel so second place to Lex after all the hype, for Ramakhan feeling laughable outside of his one good episode near the end, and for Kelly’s character reboot and her feeling like she could be replaced by any extra of the week and nothing would have changed; again I don’t know if it’s because they focused too much on Crisis and all that was going to mean but I don’t want to see another season five quality season for this series, season five as it was almost crushed my fan soul.

Review: Hello Maid of Steel Podcasters. Short-circuited Monty here:
I went back to look over my notes to see what I remembered about this episode. Lo and behold in the credits, whose name do I see listed as “incompetent staff writer” (uncredited)? It is Derek Simon. He was there from the start, but this is the first episode when I NOTICED him and wrote “incompetent as part of the job title description”.
Then I thought about why I wrote that bit of info down and it came to light, that this is the first major episode in Season 1. where I noticed the clumsy drop-ins to the script of the Derek Simon touch; you know… the clumsy messaging, the illiterate and non-dialogual structure as well as ungrammatical sentences given to actors with tongue twisted syllabic strings and “insert clumsy messaging here out of no-where touches.”?
One thing that bugged me then as it does me now is the deliberate disrespect that Kara, “Supergirl”, as a character, shows Liza Danvers, even to her face, by not acknowledging her as her “natural’ mother. Kara always calls Liza her “adoptive” mother as if the distinction and label is some type of specimen labeling. This is a deliberate writer choice to show Kara refuses to assimilate or identify as “human” in the parent daughter relationship with Liza Danvers. I suppose that obvious deliberate elitist writer cadre choice to saddle the Kara character with this personality defect revealed to me a certain early bias that I knew would be a hard kernel for me to swallow about the title character, as I am very conscious of identity based ideology as a tendency and excuse in some fan fictionalist scribblers. They write that lousy way, because they have never learned how to write, characters as empathic human beings. They substitute viewpoint for natural empathic action and reaction. This is a grating superficiality that presents a 2-d cutout propsicle, instead of a 3-d human being.

THAT is the other hard kernel I take away from this episode. That is the nuttiness and the bald negative statement that is written in this episode for Cat Grant to speak that one should notice and never forget in this Sometimes the writers will actually say what they THINK. Elitist nihilism is the terminology to describe the mindset.
If I come down HARD on this episode, it is because it is so overtly negative and bitter in outlook. I do not like this kind of writing or viewpoint or cynicism at all for a character supposedly as hopeful as Kara.
As I rate it now, it is one of my least favorite Season One Supergirl episodes for the venom, bitterness and bile that runs through it as sub-textual messagingas a viciously acted sub-current, despite the superficial plot excuse that the Danvers family works and feels at cross purposes during Thanks or Friendsgiving because everyone in that family; Kara, Liza and Alex dances around the Maypole of secrets, lies and illusions about themselves, Jeremiah and each other.
The honest hypocrisies of Leslie Willis and Cat Grant are supposedly the refreshing counterpoint, but even their viciousness as acted is off-putting to me.
“Take me to Church” writers? Hello No. Take all of you to the woodshed for off the wall counseling; Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Caitlin Parrish … and especially Derek Simon. learn to write with empathy and optimism, dagnabit.

That is the bone-crusher, Darryl. Nihilism R’ Us is in that scene subliminally. Vicious and cynical as written and directed, it is almost evil. Almost “Blackest Night” in its insidious irredentist intent.
