With the launch of Obsidian North’s next generation of VR you will be able to see, taste, and touch your wildest dreams. The important thing is to not forget the real world around you. Losing touch with reality can have actual inescapable consequences. Alex has moved from being under Lex Luthor’s control. Her sister Kara is not as lucky. Lex wants to break into Leviathan’s inner circle. He believes the key to doing that is to protect their latest asset Andrea Rojas and therefore Supergirl is assigned to be her bodyguard.
Meanwhile animal trials have completed in the non nocere project. Even the most aggressive animals are rendered docile and friendly. Lex had promised to help Lena with the project and he has really come through. He arranged human subjects at the local prison to take non nocere to the next level. While there we see Steve again. He praises Lena as a hero for taking the violent tendencies out of his fellow inmates. Lena’s project only targets one region of the brain. The unforeseen consequence is Steve, usually a docile man, gets caught up in the grip of fear and revenge.
Since Supergirl is on assignment guarding Andrea she asks J’onn and Alex to investigate the alien that attacked her. This leads them to the alien bar that gives us leads in so many of the refugees causing trouble in National City. Due to purple lightning at the scene of Andrea’s attack the prime suspect must be a Chlorophyllian. That is confusing to J’onn because he says that race is usually very peaceful. Upon further investigation Alex finds a box containing an Obsidian employee badge and a suicide note. This is definitely a break in the case.
Alex is struggling on her first day outside the DEO. It is the first time she doesn’t have a whole team behind her and it is leaving her feeling vulnerable. Alex feels helpless when the gauntlet wielding Chlorophyllian steals J’onn’s power and lights the building on fire.
Supergirl leaves Andrea in Brainy’s custody at the DEO as she rushes to blow out the fire. Ms. Rojas gets so aggravated that Brainy won’t let her out of the cell to help override the fail safe. In this reality Andrea is just a CEO not Acrata a Leviathan agent that can move through the shadows. Somehow in this moment Andrea’s shadow powers are activated. Was extreme stress able to bring this ability on? The only thing I know for sure is that National City is going to descend into darkness when all the transformers blow and Lex Luthor is not answering his texts.
Alex, J’onn and Kara assemble all the clues. The note they found was addressed to my darling Amy. It is becoming clear that this is a case of revenge. Amy’s husband became addicted to Obsidian’s virtual reality lenses and then took his own life when the company fired him. Supergirl rushes to Obsidian headquarters to avert disaster. Amy steals Supergirl’s powers but she is still a hero.
Sometimes people just want to be seen and heard here in the real world. That is exactly how Supergirl is a hero in this moment. She makes Amy see reason. Helps her understand that she doesn’t want to hurt innocent people. Revenge is motivating her. She doesn’t want to do harm.
All of our super friends here in National City showed that there are different ways to be a hero. Brainy has learned from the Big Brain that he must keep working for Lex for the greater good. Unfortunately he is getting increasingly worried that it will cost him all his friends.
Will Lex get what he wants from Gemma and Leviathan? We will have to tune in next week and see. Never fear! Silver Vox and Green Butterfly will be with you no matter what. This is your eye in the sky The Green Butterfly wishing you a super week.

Some blog post comments…
“It is the first time she doesn’t have a whole team behind her and it is leaving her feeling vulnerable.” – except it’s not her first time alone, she’s been alone before taking out Cadmus in season two so this is just another example of crazy writing this season; Alex is in a plot but it’s nothing that’s organic to her character. 🙁
“Was extreme stress able to bring this ability on?” – this is how I took the scene; she was so stressed out the powers took her to where she wanted to be.
“Brainy has learned from the Big Brain that he must keep working for Lex for the greater good.” – that’s debatable.
“Does William know Kara is Supergirl?” – sadly he probably does; logically he shouldn’t because she hasn’t been as out of the way with him as she has others but they’ll probably have him know because “look he’s so smart and is focused on her to the point he knows it’s her” or some other bull crap, eye rolly reason they try to use to push Kara/William. *sigh*
In regards to technology sucking away people from the real world, let it not be forgotten technology also let him see his he world again which is something he could otherwise never do; there are pluses to the technology as well as minuses…if only there was a character who could explain this to others. Too bad Kelly Olsen is just a love interest now who shows up for like 5 seconds at most in an episode and says only one sentence. 🙁 Again this season is so lacking in areas for quality progression; I don’t know if it’s writing quality, the fact they can’t have a consistent progression for anyone it seems in the season, or the fact they said half the season was pointless to watch because Crisis rebooted it all in a way but this has again just been my least favorite season to watch and 2 and 3 had Mon in it!
“Meanwhile, Alex, J’onn, and Kelly attempt to rescue a man stuck inside a virtual reality escape room.” – PLEASE let Kelly make a case for the good of virtual technology too and don’t change her to be on the side of “you’re right it’s bad you guys, I’ve been blind all season”!
On to the podcast…
The lizard’s name is Spike. 🙂
Sam is awesome!
Yes, please jump into the discussions fellow fans! 🙂
No to the baby being part Mon!!! I think the pregnancy will more so effect season six than it will season five; we might see a later start date depending on when Melissa delivers or we may have some very Kara lite episodes at the start of the season with others doing the heavy lifting as it were or we could see a lot of CGI fights with “Kara” landing and then they just shoot from chest up on Melissa but yeah I think season 6 will be more effected than season 5. Women work every day and have kids so I can’t see it being the series end unless Melissa just wants to quit acting all together for awhile until the kid is like 5 and in school each day so she has free time again if you will; if that did happened they just have an early jump on the Alex spinnoff which will hopefully be what happens after season 10, but I don’t see there being a rush – they can make it work where Melissa is happy and the show still gets done.
“You know what would be interesting: a pregnant Supergirl.” – ? Go home John you’re clearly not feeling well, ha; I can see some intrigue to this I admit but for me it’s going to depend on who’s the dad because NO to the baby being part Mon or William! 🙂 “We need Mon El to come back from the 31st century unmarried…” – ??? Go home John, now; try again next podcast because you are striking out HARD with ideas in this portion! “I need Mon back…” – look you got Justina sick too. *shakes head*
I definitely took issue with the plot handling in regards to technology this week John, because ok yes some people can become too obsessed if you will and it drives them to kind of disconnect ironically from other things but there is also good to technology as well because someone who feels alone in the world can easily find others like them so they feel less alone and you never know what comes from that. Technology can help those who can’t express themselves like everyone else to be a bit more like everyone by using it to interact or get their message across. As Andrea said it can help calm those who need peace…there’s good to it as well and the fact it’s now all “technology bad” feels so lackluster; it’s really annoying that they have two perfect counter point characters there in Kelly and Andrea but they don’t use them. It is ok to disagree on a topic as long as you aren’t a jerk about it! I just do not understand the game plan with this season and I miss when things felt organic.
As much as I enjoy J’onn-Alex moments I’m bummed to see them back together I have to say; we waited 5 years for Alex to lead the DEO and then we finally get it for like maybe 5 episodes really (season four does not count as Haley was over her) and now she’s back to being under J’onn…it feels like a step back for her character instead of showing what kind of leader she can be in a tough situation. 🙁
It may be wrong but I don’t care about the Tower, I’m more of a DEO set girl myself.
Unless Kara is getting a check from them she does not work for the DEO! As for killing Lex, killing is a last resort for Kara so I get her not doing that move yet.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for not dragging out any William talk! 😀
Agreed Darryl, Alex SO has a secondary weapon!
Alex would go through a wall of fire, she doesn’t care, that’s Tuesday. She’s at least TRY it before she called Kara.
Alex has really bad taste in pairing men with Kara but it makes sense as guys aren’t really her interest. Ha. I think it’s fair to at least ask as Darryl said is it Alex just trying to push Kara to be happy too because she feels guilty; yes Alex has begun working out her stress when it comes it Eliza and how she grew up but that doesn’t mean the pressure just instantly disappears so this could be a subconscious thing.
Great William impression Phoenix, but BOO William content! 🙂
NO to Kelly with the Guardian shield!
The two upcoming episodes sound good. I agree Justina “Honey, where is my super suit?!” would be hilarious to hear in episode 16.

Hokay. Here goes nothing.
“It is the first time she doesn’t have a whole team behind her and it is leaving her feeling vulnerable.” – except it’s not her first time alone, she’s been alone before taking out Cadmus in season two so this is just another example of crazy writing this season; Alex is in a plot but it’s nothing that’s organic to her character.”
Which Alex do we want?
a. Batgirl Alex?
b. Supersuit Alex?
c. Supercop Alex?
d. Big Sister Alex?
e. “Days of Our Lives” Alex?
f. Needs of the story this week, Alex (The one we are getting, it seems.)
g. Or the “Lets screw over Chyler, because we can.” Alex. (Also the one we seem to be getting.)
“Was extreme stress able to bring this ability on?” – this is how I took the scene; she was so stressed out the powers took her to where she wanted to be.”
Naw. It was stated several episodes back that she had absorbed the powers from the amulet. It is just that the sloppy writers did not remind us.
“Brainy has learned from the Big Brain that he must keep working for Lex for the greater good.” – that’s debatable.”
There is no debate. Lex needs a jail cell as his future mailing address PDQ, and if Braindead is too stupid to figure it out, then you know why I call the character, Braindead.
“ “Does William know Kara is Supergirl?” – sadly he probably does; logically he shouldn’t because she hasn’t been as out of the way with him as she has others but they’ll probably have him know because “look he’s so smart and is focused on her to the point he knows it’s her” or some other bull crap, eye rolly reason they try to use to push Kara/William. *sigh* “
I disagree. The writers may try to write it that way, but when I see a stumblebum who cannot even project or deliver a line, my suspension of disbelief (SOD) is never going to work with a SOD like him.
“In regards to technology sucking away people from the real world, let it not be forgotten technology also let him see his he world again which is something he could otherwise never do; there are pluses to the technology as well as minuses…if only there was a character who could explain this to others. a. No. to Florianna Lima 2.0. Always NO.
b. VR does no0t work that way. No matter how good the simulation, the frame is always bounded and the human animal KNOWs it is bounded. It is part of how we evolved. We know dream from reality (Unless we are insane that is.)
c. If one is waiting for an explainer (See Alex choices, above) that train pulled out during season 2.
“ “Meanwhile, Alex, J’onn, and Kelly attempt to rescue a man stuck inside a virtual reality escape room.” – PLEASE let Kelly make a case for the good of virtual technology too and don’t change her to be on the side of “you’re right it’s bad you guys, I’ve been blind all season”!”
See previous comment about how VR really works.
“On to the podcast…”
Homer Simpson time.
“The lizard’s name is Spike.”
Would prefer him in his own GOT episode to this crap.
“Sam is awesome!”
Odette Annabelle is a good actor.
“Yes, please jump into the discussions fellow fans!”
It would help a lot.
“No to the baby being part Mon!!! I do not see Superbaby being a thing.
“ “You know what would be interesting: a pregnant Supergirl.” – Go home John you’re clearly not feeling well, ha; I can see some intrigue to this I admit but for me it’s going to depend on who’s the dad because NO to the baby being part Mon or William! “We need Mon El to come back from the 31st century unmarried…” – Go home John, now; try again next podcast because you are striking out HARD with ideas in this portion! “I need Mon back…” – look you got Justina sick too. *shakes head* “
Read some Power Girl or early Ms. Marvel comics to see how well that really stupid idea turned out. That would be a jump the shark for me and a point when I bail. Chris Claremont devoted a huge issue to repair the harm Jim Shooter et al did in the MARVEL case. I mean superbaby and its attendant fallout is a BAAAAD idea.
“I definitely took issue with the plot handling in regards to technology this week John, because ok yes some people can become too obsessed if you will and it drives them to kind of disconnect ironically from other things but there is also good to technology as well because someone who feels alone in the world can easily find others like them so they feel less alone and you never know what comes from that. Andrea is starting to annoy me, too. Don’t know why, yet.
“As much as I enjoy J’onn-Alex moments I’m bummed to see them back together I have to say; we waited 5 years for Alex to lead the DEO and then we finally get it for like maybe 5 episodes really (season four does not count as Haley was over her) and now she’s back to being under J’onn…it feels like a step back for her character instead of showing what kind of leader she can be in a tough situation.”
I’m not too happy with this ENTIRE EPISODE for the same reasons and not just for Alex.
“It may be wrong but I don’t care about the Tower, I’m more of a DEO set girl myself.”
Batgerbils belong in Batcaves. I think of the “The Tower” if it is not a Birds of Prey thing, as definitely Batgerbils and it has no place here.
“Unless Kara is getting a check from them she does not work for the DEO! As for killing Lex, killing is a last resort for Kara so I get her not doing that move yet.”
Phantom Zone, Aaron. Borrow the staff of Hranunuar and let Lex spend some quality time there.
“THANK YOU SO MUCH for not dragging out any William talk!”
Staz Nair should follow his name and EXIT SOON.
“Agreed Darryl, Alex SO has a secondary weapon!”
Come on! That is so much a QWARD version of the Green Lantern ring.
“Alex would go through a wall of fire, she doesn’t care, that’s Tuesday. She’s at least TRY it before she called Kara.”
Actually Kara should have an Alex watch the way she has screwed up til now. She is the one who needs a keeper and rescues, not Alex.
“Alex has really bad taste in pairing men with Kara but it makes sense as guys aren’t really her interest. Ha. I think it’s fair to at least ask as Darryl said is it Alex just trying to push Kara to be happy too because she feels guilty; yes Alex has begun working out her stress when it comes it Eliza and how she grew up but that doesn’t mean the pressure just instantly disappears so this could be a subconscious thing.”
Matchmaker Alex is “Days of Our Lives” Alex and that is as bad a plot or story idea as “superbaby”.
“Great William impression Phoenix, but BOO William content!”
Cannot emphasize how much I detest Boy Band Staz Nair
“NO to Kelly with the Guardian shield!”
As long as she permanently toboggans off the show with it as a story point, she can keep the cockamamie shield.
“The two upcoming episodes sound good. I agree Justina “Honey, where is my super suit?!” would be hilarious to hear in episode 16.”
As long as it is the BUM saying it to M’Gann.
“Which Alex do we want?”
It seems like asking for Alex to be head of anything department wise is always asking for too much Monty, so I’ll just take I guess season 3 Alex. She was out sexuality wise, she’s still the bad*** ninja we knew in season one but she also remembers she can do mini medical related plots also; I would also like for her to have the screen time and plot quality from season two but that may be pushing it for a request now.
Maybe it’s because I’m tired of a Superman plot on “Supergirl” yet again but I just can’t get hyped for the Lex stuff anymore; Jon is killing it as the character but we all know he’s not going to stay “good” because a good Luthor would be something fresh in the story dynamic for the character so it’s like “Come on already so I can get to plots I’m more interested in and can’t easily guess the outcomes of”, which with this season sadly isn’t many if any.
I wouldn’t say William knows either Monty if I was a character in that world because if Lena can’t figure it out why would he, but I was voting in regards to how the writers will probably play it which is yes he knows because “he pays such close attention isn’t it sweet”.
“Odette Annabelle is a good actor.”
She is but Sam is also an interesting character who had more to explore and would have been a way more welcome sight season four than Ben!
I’m also going to say no to a super baby because I feel that would just lead to moody Alex and I don’t want that. As the oldest, appearance wise anyways (Kara is at minimum 13 years older than her actually – Phantom Zone), she may think she has to do everything first and she’s been on a baby kick so to see Kara have a kid first she might feel like she’s falling behind and just no to sad Alex. I’m all for them working around the baby bump instead of trying to work it in.
It’s TOTALLY a Green Lantern ring just without the ring look Monty; hey can call it whatever Martian word they want but it’s a Lantern ring in function at the end of the day. And I still find it hard to believe Alex doesn’t have a secondary weapon in that apartment.
An Alex watch for Kara sounds adorable. Please tell me it would be worn upside down Monty because that’s how Alex rolls with her watches. 🙂
M’Gann is a lovely woman but I will forever be team Earth Mom (Eliza)/Space Dad (J’onn)! 🙂

I’d be happy for Batgerbil Alex. Remember, she used to investigate stuff and actually figure plots out?”

That was my gripe with Season 3 and 4. There was no overall PLAN.

I cannot say I am going to disagree. I have a Nerf dartboard with STUPID written on the bullseye. Back when I had the drinking game going I would toss Nerf darts whenever I saw a Derek Simon type bolo in the SG episode and I almost never missed that bullseye, no matter how many shots I had prior to the toss. Uncanny how that worked.
.
“Odette Annabelle is a good actor.”
“She is but Sam is also an interesting character who had more to explore and would have been a way more welcome sight season four than Ben!”
I still think Alsam would have worked, complete with Ruby the Superkid.

The correct way to handle it, is to write KARA THE REPORTER and to sub in a guest star. (Is there a Maxima opportunity here?) Or just sub in Sam for a few episodes. Sam and Alex? Alsam? Sure; that works.
“It’s TOTALLY a Green Lantern ring just without the ring look Monty; hey can call it whatever Martian word they want but it’s a Lantern ring in function at the end of the day. And I still find it hard to believe Alex doesn’t have a secondary weapon in that apartment.”
One glove of Harunuuar to go.
“An Alex watch for Kara sounds adorable. Please tell me it would be worn upside down Monty because that’s how Alex rolls with her watches. ”
Why not?
“M’Gann is a lovely woman but I will forever be team Earth Mom (Eliza)/Space Dad (J’onn)! ”
Martians be Martians and it fits the Incredibles joke motif so well.
Still want Lena to burst out into song “She’s as cold as ICE, willing to sacrifice our Love, next time she sees Kara. Still rooting for Karthor or as some have misnamed it DanCorp.
“Batwoman” Alex is a good option also Monty; anything from S1-S3 I think is doable but yeah S1 and S2 had some great stuff with her. 🙂
I’ll give you season four felt like a scramble, but what makes you say season 3 had no plan? I can see how you could say it got highjacked by Mon and a romance plot some did not want because it totally did but they did start out with something interesting with Reign.
I’m pretty sure Alex/Sam is Agent Reign or Agent Arias for their combo name. As for having Sam fill in for Kara if the need arises, yes please; I’d take almost anyone except for Clark showing up because no to Superman on “Supergirl” thank you – I’m here for her and team not him. Also again, Sam still has plots to explore with the Reign fallout; a plot which could tie into all this VR stuff as maybe she tries to use it to work through her PTSD or come to grips with her powers. #SamStillHasPowers!
I thought Lena/Kara was SuperCorp? She’s a better option than these guys they keep trying to set Kara up with who either just want in her pants (Mon) or are so boring you can’t watch the romance plot because you can’t care about the other half of it (William).
“Batwoman” Alex is a good option also Monty; anything from S1-S3 I think is doable but yeah S1 and S2 had some great stuff with her. “
I can understand why you use “Batwoman”, but ever since Bruce-Bat was written as an Ass-Bat by Frank Miller and THIS piece of trash…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_War_Games
Ass-Bat has been Wargames to me and his complicit cohortss in his comic book crimes have been Bat-gerbils to me. It is yet another reason why I am a strong “S” fan.
” “I’ll give you season four felt like a scramble, but what makes you say season 3 had no plan? I can see how you could say it got highjacked by Mon and a romance plot some did not want because it totally did but they did start out with something interesting with Reign.”
Because a writing crew would not have started with the World-killer season premise, without writing a World KILLER plot-including the rather critical notation that Kara zor el in her current form is a World-Killer, herself, after her dad or mom got through exp0erimenting on her.
If they are pulling from the 2Mikes Supergirl run for Reign and her fellow WKs, that is KIND OF IMPORTANT as a plot element. I cannot think of a more shocking development than for the daughter to discover her Dad (or Mom) had turned her into a weapon of conquest and or mass destruction for a follow up wave of Kryptonians.
Reducing it all to a third rate Macbeth witches “Bewitched” type of soap opera was the nail in that coffin.
“I’m pretty sure Alex/Sam is Agent Reign or Agent Arias for their combo name. I cannot guarantee that Tyler Hoechlin will not pollute across the CW, but weak jawed Super-wimp will definitely show up on Supergirl again.
The story for Reign is one I can write based off season three hints and nudges. Checkmate, Leviathan, Cadmus (pick a superspy organization loser) or maybe even Argus or the DEO will want to bag their own tame “Super Woman” and use her for a nefarious scheme they have against one of the other loser organizations to take over as the top loser in the secret world governing cabal known as the illuminati. Go all Jonathan Hickman or even Brian Michael Bendis on the story setup and do a Maxwell Lord neck snap finish with Reign standing in for Wonder Woman.
“I thought Lena/Kara was SuperCorp? She’s a better option than these guys they keep trying to set Kara up with who either just want in her pants (Mon) or are so boring you can’t watch the romance plot because you can’t care about the other half of it (William).”
I prefer Karthor. Rhymes with Arthur. and that spells Pendragon and that means “Spike”. I will travel a long way for a PUN!
As for romance on SG?
It is not just the Kara storyline where no charisma losers are hired to play the love object. We have Florianna Lima and Azie Tasfei (Florianna Lima 2.0). you have to remember that the stable of writers we see on this show, do not know how to write adult relationships or understand the dynamic beyond giggle girl teen level mentalities. A mature story frightens these writers because then they would have to deal with fidelity, compromise, putting the other’s needs before the self and other things mature people do. Remember how the Maggie and Alex breakup was handled? Over the subject of adoption?
If you truly love someone, “compromise” becomes your go to default to keep your partner happy. That is true of any mix and match relationship where human love is involved.
If you don’t feel it and know it, you cannot write it. Hence we get William.
McP.
