One of My Three Soups saw three villains escape Arkham. Jim and Harvey went after Hatter and the Bat & Cat went after Jerome. Keeping things crazy, Babs is now the Demons Head and leader of the League of Shadows. Things are hypnotizingly crazy in Gotham this week.
One of My Three Soups for Jerome:
The Mad Hatter, Scarecrow and Jerome have broken out of Arkham with 80 plus friends. Jerome is needing some information. So he heads over to Uncle Zach’s diner. He hides as Zach sends the cops away. Zach has prepared 3 soups for the evening. We find out that Zach cooked for the circus and punished Jerome by burning him for stealing. Zach was prepared for Jerome and the third soup was for Lunkhead (circus strongman). Lunkhead disarms Jerome and holds him as Zach pours scalding soup on to Jerome’s face.
Bruce and Selina are in full Bat & Cat mode. They first head to the GCPD to get Jerome’s file. Selina does the cat burglar thing while Bruce distracts Det. Harper. Bruce’s acting skills have a long way to go before he reaches Batman range, but it does the trick. They escape with the file. In the car, Bruce says that he didn’t kill Jerome when he had a chance, so he feels responsible for all Jerome does now. Selina is helping to pay back the debit she thinks she owes Bruce, for help with the jewelry. But he says she doesn’t owe him. He leans in and she is expecting a kiss. He opens the door for her and she leaves.
The file leads Bruce to Zach’s diner. He interrupts Zach & Lunkhead’s fun. He asks Zach to call the cops. Zach commands Lunkhead to release Jerome and get rid of Bruce. Jerome takes the opportunity to get the location and address for St Ignatius School and then ends his uncle. Bruce will not let Jerome kill Lunkhead so he is in a tight spot. Selina bails him out by taking out Jerome’s gun with her whip and Bruce stops Lunkhead. Selina wants to kill Jerome but Bruce stops her. Jerome escapes and Selina advises Bruce not to let his guilt cause him to get killed. After she leaves, Bruce finds the address and calls Jim and wants him to meet him at the school.
One of My Friends Is Hypnotized:
The Hatter calls for Jim on his first day back on the job. Captain Gordon can’t get an easy 1st shift. The Hatter calls him and Bullock to an intersection. There they find a newlywed couple under a wrecking ball and they are surrounded by a group of hypnotized citizens. Tetch drops the wrecking ball on the couple and leaves Jim with a rhyme. Once he leaves, the citizens cluck like chickens before waking from the hypnotized state. Jim ponders on the rhyme and realizes people are going to jump. He and Harvey head to the roof to find some people already on the edge waiting for midnight. People all over Gotham are on their roofs. Harvey and Jim figure it was a radio broadcast that caused this. Harvey finds the right station, but is hypnotized and heads to the roof.
Jim heads over to that station and calls Harper telling her to have speakers set up all over the city. He gets the drop on Tetch, but the Hatter is not going to stop the people. He says that if Jim tries to stop them they will jump. Jim is at his wits end and tells the people to help each other. This breaks the hypnosis and the day is saved. Tetch is secured and headed back to Arkham. But Scarecrow and Jerome stop the truck, dose the driver and free Hatter. The plan all along was for Jervis to distract Jim while Jerome gets the address and Scarecrow makes more fear toxin.
Jim and Harvey have a drink at the station. Jim does not like keeping his past with Sofia & Pyg from the GCPD but it is what is best. Harvey says he’ll have to live with it. “Feet of clay are heavy to carry around that’s what the whisky is for.”
One of My Worst Days Becomes My Best:
Barbara has been dealing with the headaches and glowing hand issues for a while now. Tabitha wants to do some damage in Gotham while the cops are distracted by the Arkham escape. But Babs says no. She is trying to cope but the memories burning her with pain. Tabs says the Babs she knows would push through the pain. Barbara does, remembering her death and Ra’s brining her back to life. Ra’s has made her the Demon’s Head and put her in charge of the League of Shadows.
While Babs and Tabs are discussing this the League shows up asking for the Demon’s Head. Babs un-gloves and says she is in charge. Their leader says no woman has ever been in charge of the League and he will take her hand off. Barbara ends him and the group kneels down. The lights flicker and the Ladies of the League take out the men. They were judged weak and needed to be culled. Barbara is now fully the head of the League and she wants to know all about it.
One of My Three Soups was a fast paced episode. It was made all the better by the characters we see on screen. Gotham takes time to establish characters and give them depth. We fell emotions for them good or bad. So when we get to an action filled episode like this week, that character development pays off. I thought Ben McKenzie did a good job directing this week and worked well with the writer, Charlie Hutson, to make the characters shine. One of My Three Soups is an example of why this series should get another season or two.
A Dark Knight: Mandatory Brunch Meeting:
Gordon and Bullock try to stay one step ahead as Jerome (guest star Cameron Monaghan) zeros in on his next target. Meanwhile, Nygma hosts a riddle game show in the Narrows and faces his toughest challenger in Lee Thompkins, and Penguin goes to see Butch with a proposal in the all-new “A Dark Knight: Mandatory Brunch Meeting” episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, April 5 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
