This week, Karen and John are here to discuss “The Demon’s Head”. The fourth episode in the “Dark Knight” first half of the fourth season of Gotham. We had a little fun talking about some of our favorite movie & TV references, a few terrible puns, and some meta callouts. Here’s a blog post that’s not up to our normal “Geoff-ness,” but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

I WANT THE KNIFE…. PLEASE…

IWantTheKnifeThis episode’s main plot revolved around the dagger that Bruce won in last week’s auction. Unfortunately it leads to very bad results here, and some things that will weigh heavily on Bruce’s soul in the years to come. Another layer to the Batman “suit” he’ll wear.

James is also involved in the outcome, and we speculate on how it will affect him down the road as well. Fortunately, as an adult, he has an outlet in which to lose himself. Which leads to…

Daddy’s Girl

Sofia’s story continues, and while she has her own confrontation with Oswald, and then her father’s old associates, she reminds Penguin that perhaps he could still learn from the old ways. A surgical tool vs. a chainsaw – which is the better choice? Oswald thinks he knows, but is her warning a portend for things to come?

While she and James had their own troubles, their fire ignited near the end of the episode. Both literally and figuratively. Are you wondering what her endgame is with the future Commissioner? We definitely are.

A Riddle Rapped in an Ed Nygma

RappersEd continues to suffer from his mental deficiencies, although he’s trying to craft riddles to lure Oswald into meeting him at certain locations around the city. He sends a couple of homeless guys to rap his clues, and Penguin gets very frustrated with his horrible riddles.

Zsasz – who continues to be IMMENSELY entertaining – enjoys the beats well enough. When Oswald finally gives him the nod to torture them for Ed’s location, he enjoys them even more. Poor Penguin who usually gets frustrated being unable to solve Ed’s puzzles, is now upset that they’re just really awful.

Ultimately, Oswald leaves Ed to suffer in his impaired condition. That can only end poorly, since The Riddler will most likely rise again – and he’ll remember… he’ll remember everything.

Sit Anubis, sit. Good Gimp.

I had to give a little space to Anubis, because he leaves an imprint. We’ll all have to buy a little brain bleach methinks – in order to scrub him from our memory banks. One of Ra’s’ minions, he’s sent to chase after Bruce and the dagger, but is dispatched by James with a simple doggy treat.

Still, he’s totally creeptastic, and fits into Gotham mythology like a well-oiled leather glove.
