Light The Wick was about the start bad things to come.  Bruce and Jim had to make hard choices and were told by the Owls to light the wick that will destroy Gotham as we know it.  The coming destruction has has been building with seeds planted all season long.  Can Gotham survive?

Light In A Dark Court:

GU63 - Light The Wick - Owls

Jim is on the case. He used his skills to get Kathryn’s DNA and find out who she is.  He goes to her house and finds a Wayne facility key and has the guts to talk with her instead of running. He has looped in Bullock and Fox to help him.  But has to side step Penguin and Firefly. Penguin knows the Court has Ed and he wants to kill Ed. Jim leverages his info on Penguin and has the Talon capture him.  So now two of Jim’s biggest headaches are locked up side by side.  Fortunately Ed can get out of choking range of Oswald.

Jim needs to be free of Ed and Oswald because he has much bigger issues.  Kathryn has brought Hugo Strange (BD Wong) back to Gotham.  They have taken Barnes (Michael Chicklis) out of Arkham and secreted him to a Wayne offsite lab.  Hugo has been forced to extract the Alice Tetch virus from Barnes and weaponize it.  Now it can be spread via the air.  Harvey & Jim discover the lab after one of the test subjects has gone wild.  Hugo fills them in on the Court’s plan, gives them his notes and a sample of the virus.  Harvey gets it to Fox at the GCPD to work on a cure.

Jim gets a call from Kathryn.  She says if you want to know more come to this address.  The debutant ball is happening and Jim is faced with a test of loyalty.  Allow the virus to be tested on the debutants or be killed by the Talon.  Jim calls for back up (Penguin & Firefly) and starts to fight the Talon.  With their help he defeats the Talon and gets everyone out of the path of the virus.

Jim is now in trouble with the Court but he had to light the wick of another bomb.  Lee has been questioning Uncle Frank’s death and wants Harvey to look into it.  But she gets stonewalled.  She finds Fox working on the Tetch cure and when she asks about Jim, she again gets stonewalled.  She finally decides to quit the GCPD because she has no place there and does not know what to do.  Jim FINALLY tells her, he shot Mario because he had a knife. But it is all a little too late.

Light Of Healing:

GU63 - Light The Wick - Ivy Selina

Ivy is searching high and low for Selina.  She makes it to the Sirens Club and Tabbs tells her to check the hospital.  Ivy finds Selina in a coma and the doctor does not give her any chance.  Ivy kicks into high gear and takes over.  She uses the light in the room to bring nurture her flowers that will help bring Selina back.  Low and behold it works!  So now Ivy has brought Penguin and Selina back from the brink of death using her botanical skills.  Ivy is in the shadows no more but working in the light, but there is still darkness in her and who knows what will push her over the edge.

Emotional Light Quenched:

GU63 - Light The Wick - Bruce Shaman

Bruce is in training under The Shaman (Raymond J. Berry).  He is undergoing both physical and mental training.  But Bruce just can’t get past the power his emotions have over him. The Shaman takes him to his parent’s wake.  Bruce realizes that he ran away because all of the people were concerned about him not outraged at his parent’s death.  He takes all that emotion symbolized in cufflinks and and locks them up in a safe. With the light of emotions quenched, he continues his training.  He is fully under the control of The Shaman who seems to be in charge of Kathryn. Things are not good for our Batman to be.

Closing Thoughts:

We began to see the plot threads woven throughout the season coming together to give us the full picture.  I don’t know how Jim and Bruce are going to break free from the influence of the Court.  The reckoning is coming and our heroes have to rise to keep Gotham from falling. Because all will be judged.

News:

Heroes Rise:  All Will Be Judged:  Temple Shaman reveals his hand to Bruce Wayne and sets up the next phase of training. Gordon and Bullock are put into danger as they come across a crystal owl that reveals the most coveted secrets of Gotham’s underworld. Meanwhile, Nygma and Penguin are forced to work together to get out of a tricky situation in the all-new “Heroes Rise: All Will Be Judged” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, May 22 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-319) (TV-14 L, V)

Next Season:  Fox has announced that Gotham is moving nights.  Season 4 has Gotham on Thursday nights at 8pm.  We hope this means we will not get bumped for other shows (like it has for X-Files & 24).  Karen and I will be discussing the feedback deadline and when we will record the podcast next season and we will let you know.
