Theo has unleashed the brothers of St. Dumas on Gotham.  They are out to make blood sacrifices to make atonement and cleansing for the city.  To complete the work they must kill The Son of Gotham a.k.a. Bruce Wayne.  While they are out to find Bruce, he is out to get the name of his parents killers.  He makes a turn in the path to become Batman a true son of Gotham.

The brothers of St Dumas feel little pain because they inflict it on themselves to cleanse themselves.  They are also out to cleanse Gotham through pain and blood sacrifices.  They are off killing 9 and then the Son of Gotham to bring the day of reckoning.  They are cleansing their old abbey and taking people to their underground alter for sacrifice.  In pursuit of them, Jim stabs one who ignores it and dies before he can be questioned.  Later Jim fakes out a brother to get more info but another cop spoils it before he can find out who The Son of Gotham is.  This order is twisted and a cult their terms and symbology may borrow Christian terms but is not Christianity.   Theo even shares with Jim that he is using them because faith is powerful.

Jim is suffering due to Parks’ death.  He is second guessing himself and blaming himself for not killing Flamingo.  Neither liquor or Leslie can convince him to let it go.  His visit to Theo in prison didn’t help.  Theo is smug and Jim has a bad feeling, and rightly so, that Theo is going to get off.  Barnes has taken him off Theo’s case even after Jim’s pleas for more evidence.  Barnes gives him another case but Bullock is still searching for ties to Theo.  Bullock finds a link at the abbey and they go to pursue it.  Thankfully that and testimony in the case Barnes gave ties the two together and Jim is allowed to continue.  Bullock & Gordon true sons of Gotham pursue the case by any means and fine the brothers but not enough answers.  When Theo’s court date comes, it is bad news for Jim.  The former mayor fingers Penguin and says Penguin made him lie about Theo.  With no evidence, that Jim wanted to find so badly, the court frees Theo.  Jim punches him out and is tasered and captured.  Theo does his best “Bad Bond Villain” and monologues his whole plan.  But before Theo’s minions can kill Jim, the Penguin comes to the rescue.

Bruce and Selina want to expose Silver and get the info about the killer.  Selina tells Bruce the best lies contain the truth.  He feeds Silver a lie and she agrees to get the name.  Meanwhile, The Knife and his buddies are stalking Bruce.  They kidnap Silver and Bruce comes with them.  They tie both up and want answers about what Theo knows.  They take Bruce out to get info from him.  The Knife comes back with a bloody knife and starts to threaten Silver.  She switches from damsel in distress to mean and powerful on a dime.  The Knife will not give in to her threats and threatens to killer her.  She gives up the Wayne killer as M. Malone and out comes Bruce and Selina save and sound.  The Knife was working for them and they got the info they needed.  Silver says that this is not Bruce, he says it is now.  Selina questions him about what is next and what he said to Silver.  He said that all the beautiful things he had said about Silver were really about Selina.  She is flustered and leaves, but not before telling him not to change too much.  Here we see the beginnings of the Cat & Bat partnership.  We also see Bruce taking big steps on the path to becoming The Bat man.  He is living up to the title of The Son of Gotham.

Alfred has been looking for Bruce and finds Tabitha instead.  After a great fight scene between the two, Alfred escapes but Tabatha draws last blood.   She throws a knife and hits him in the back knocking him unconscious in a trash truck.  With Alfred out of the way, Jim knocked out, and Selina gone, Bruce comes face to face with Theo.  He has one thing on his mind, killing.

This episode was a good building episode for next week’s Fall finale.  But it felt like a good episode on its’ own.  All this season we have seen the villains rising.  Now the heroes must rise or the city will fall.  I cannot wait for next week and the second half of the season!

This week Steve and I tried to cover all these things in the podcast.  Your feedback helped.  But we would love more!  Thanks to Steve for filling in for Karen this week.  You can catch him over on GSM’s Witness Prophecies (Sleepy Hollow) Podcast.
