Favorite Childhood Disney Cartoons
I know what we’re going to do today! Let’s get dangerous! If you’re like us, a smile just appeared on your face as nostalgia flooded your brain with fond memories of “Phineas and Ferb” and “Darkwing Duck.” This week Darrell and Colby take a look back at these two Disney classics and discuss what made them so great, why they are our favorite childhood Disney cartoons. We also need your help to settle the debate on which one of these shows had the better theme song. You can cast your vote on the Mouse House Weekly Facebook page.
“When there’s trouble call DW; Darkwing Duck!” 🙂
A good story about why you love Darkwing Darrell!
I definitely remember “Darkwing Duck” and it was one of my favorites to watch but I have to say it wasn’t my favorite Disney cartoon. “Phineas & Ferb” is good alsox especially for the STEM aspects of it, but again not my favorite. My favorite Disney cartoon is the primetime cartoon series “Gargoyles”; that show was SO good, I love it didn’t talk down to the audience and dealt with some really adult themes in a way anyone could understand really. I will admit not every season was perfect, looking at you Avalon arc, but when they stayed in New York and the first season especially it was a delight to watch; Eliza Maza made me want to be a cop even more than I already did and Salli Richardson-Whitfield is the voice of my childhood! I don’t have Disney+ but I do wonder if they kept the episode ‘Deadly Force’ on the list and if they included the blood pool or not if so; yes this is a series where they shot and played it up like a lead could die because another character was playing around with a gun and they showed the blood pooling around the shot character – you see that as a kid and you aren’t going to think nothing happens if you pull a trigger. I remember parents getting really mad about that sight so for awhile the episode was pulled from the air and then it returned minus the blood pool but supposedly there are DVD sets that it’s still in as they used the original cut, I get being shocked at that to a point in a kid’s show but again let your kid watch the original cut and I guarantee if they have any decency in them they’re going to realize it’s not like a game and there are no respawns. “Gargoyles” was probably more of an adult cartoon to be fair but it was so well written and most of the characters were interesting and again I love show’s that don’t talk down to their audience as it were so for me “Gargoyles” was the best show for Disney cartoons.
I can’t remember, is “Bonkers” Disney? That was a fun show too. 🙂 I’d go “Gargoyles”, “Darkwing Duck”, and “Bonkers” for my top 3 of the time although as Darrell said the 90s was pretty good for Disney animation wise because you also have some great movies coming out then like “Beauty & The Beast”.
I always remembered Gosling as Darkwing’s niece. ?
“Perry!” 🙂
Best theme song between the two shows: no contest – Darkwing Duck!
