I am so happy to finally have time again to listen to your podcasts! Good job, guys đ
I enjoyed both 415/16. You had me in tears with the humor that had you in tears (before anyone mentioned tears).
I HAVE TO take sides on the “Universe VS. Timeline” debate… which isn’t really a debate. And it’s not semantics. Invoking the Joel Howard “Wiz o’Of” quote won’t amend what was already the sworn M.O. by the creative staff — FRINGE is only going to be about the two universes — Peter resetting the timeline back to his youthful drowning did not create a new universe. It allowed this universe to travel down “A” path it failed to previously follow.
I say “A” path, but is it “Thee” path that the parliament of Observers are shooting for? The last few podcasts have skipped over the primary issue in Season 4… What the Observer did, or did not do – His failure to zap Walter at the end of 4×01 is why we are here. Is he meddling like he did at Reiden Lake on the first go-round. Does he have a hunch that Peter will be necessary (again) to disperse/delay the fatal destiny of the universes? etc….
The Observer’s continual interference is part of the grand scheme, ep1-to-epLast, story-telling device. That, and the Olivia-Peter storyline where they are the locksmith’s set of masterkeys to whatever timeline unveils itself. The very fact that they are making such a point of presenting Peter and Olivia as polar opposites, suggests that the contrary will be the case by epLast.
The smaller seasonal storytelling diversions (perversions) are the shapeshifting, Ninja Nina, Walter neurosis.arcs. I don’t see them lasting any longer than the current timeline – which you know has to eventually get tweaked again.
I’ve no clue if the Freak-Of-The-Week science plots will get rolled into the bigger picture.
Telepathic Fun With Fungi?
Don’t Worry – Get Brain Freeze?
Time Chamber Wrinkle Remover?
I will add that the “Blue Man Group” could probably charge $500 a ticket for their Vegas show – if they had a few of the guys genetically altered with chromatophoric skin cells.

Fall Finale Notes (cont.)
Psych Eval: Another thing Iâve been trying to digest is the âpersonal reflectionâ aspect of the first third of Season 4. I am talking about the three primary characters. Liv, Pete and Lee. Walter, Astro, Phil and Nina are still secondary supporting characters.
Lee is a primary now and his âwhoa is me â the world is not as I thought I knew itâ lament continues from the loss of his partner in 4×01. He feels isolated, under-qualified, over-whelmed and short of the task. He hesitates to reach out and he hesitates at being drawn closer. His one foray into a âfirst contactâ scenario was a snub when Olivia failed to show at the diner rendezvous â and it was her idea to boot.
Olive is doing the âI am not normal, I never was… and I barely fit-in at the one place I do fit-in routine.â Her isolation stems from her shallow emotional rooting. She is jaded and under-influenced by the oddities she investigates and is indifferent to the silent âwar of the worldsâ she is a pivotal player in. She sees the bucket of paint â life handed her the brush â still, she canât help paint herself into the emotional corner she feels she is in.
Peteâs isolation stems not from his lack of familiarity with his new environment, but from the environmentâs failure to recognize him. Formerly a Jack-Of-All-Trades, Peter gave up his life as a globe-trotting, playboy wheeler-dealer. He gave it up to save his fatherâs rotting soul from Saint Claireâs. He gave it up for the love of a good woman, Olivia. And he gave everything up when he made the âultimate sacrificeâ to save both of his home worlds. Now, all of that goodness, love and sacrifice leaves him more isolated than ever. The good woman, the eccentric father and the saved planet, not only fail to recognize his tremendous contribution… they avoid him and label him as untrustworthy.
So where does that leave us with the main characters until the next timeline change? The answer is isolation. Three main characters all with the same circumstance â that seems like the prelude to flipping the canoe over. That could be the byline at the end of the season. Everything Has Changed (Again). I donât think suicide (x3) will satisfy future scripting, but, these three socks in a dryer may come out at the end of episode 4×22 entirely mismatched.
Season Four Finale – One Possibility. Peter has continued to impress Broyles. Lee and Peter have established a modest friendship: Lee brings his humanity to the relationship, while Peter contributes philosophy and savvy. Olivia continues to suffer from the external influences and hardships she was forced to endure at the hands of Ninaâs people all season. Olivia becomes disillusioned at Fringe HQ, so leaves for a more satisfying career. Of course, she winds up working for Nina, and unknowingly puts a legitimate face on Nina’s otherwise illegal activites. Lee has proven his stead with Broyles and is promoted to lead agent of the science team after Olivia steps away. Leeâs void is filled by none other than his good friend, Peter. Broyles trusts Peter completely now, and Peter gets to (re) satisfy the âcivilian contractorâ role like he did in the previous timeline. There â everyoneâs isolation has been abated. Folks have migrated back toward their skillsets and comfort zones.
I just donât want to be anywhere near Olivia and her pistol when she finds out she was manipulated by mommie-Nina. Or when Olivia is the one that hops into “The Machine” and activates it for the next “time correction”.
