Nardole is whisked away in the Tardis, and makes a pivotal decision, against what the Doctor would want, in order to save Bill and the Doctor.

Theory: the end of the season will explore what happens when a person (ie the Master) interacts with themselves from the past. It will lead to the death of Missy after completing her arc to become good and will have a terminal affect on this doctor leading to his regeneration to look like Missy.
