We just wrapped up another amazing trip to San Diego Comic Con! This marks our third trip to the event and our second year to attend Preview Night. Warner Brothers once again had exclusive pilot screenings for several of their upcoming shows. This year we saw the pilot episodes for The Tomorrow People, Almost Human, The 100, and The Originals.
In this special podcast we share our thoughts on three of the four pilot episodes, The Tomorrow People, Almost Human, and The 100. We didn’t view the pilot of The Originals, so we share some of the things that we heard others saying about the pilot. Prior to attending Comic Con and viewing the pilot, we had already announced that we’d be adding an Almost Human podcast to our lineup. Now, after having seen the we pilot episode, we are more excited about Almost Human than ever.

Hey guys, glad you had a great time in Oz.
Just a little Word Soup based on your Snippet Cast for Almost Human

Karl Urban plays Bones in Star Trek
Bones had a dislike of transporters.. a dislike for technology
IMDB metions Karl reprises his role Vakko in the New Riddick movie out this Sept 6 and has completed filming it.
Coma – Rip Van Winkle?
Dorian – Grey ?
RoboCop? Blade Runner?
Surrogates? Source Code? Harsh Realm? The Matrix?
Posts are like Potato Chips.. you can’t just post one
Alien, then Aliens introduced us to Humophobia (or AndroPhobia) with the Bishop Android line of products.. I wonder if they or the Wayland Corporation will pop up in the series.. ala Wayne Industries on the side of a Satellite or Lexcorp on a tanker.
Star Trek the Next Generation and Century City introduced us to the concept of “Synthetic Rights” and “Sentient Citizenship” aka Bicentennial Man
But movies like Source Code made me wonder.. what if a human became so damaged that even a copy of their “self” running on a mainframe.. even if only a partial a backup copy.. and manifest in the real world as say a Surrogate style robot.. “brought back to solve a murder.. or a crime” might make a good story.
One of the problems with Virtual Machines today.. it whether to realize them by using a backup which eventually uses up all available memory and sacrificing the backup.. ‘derezzing’ itself like a real human life temporarily brought back to life.. Or realized with a protected backup which “Resets” kind of like a Ground Hog day effect.. where only so much memory can be retained for so long before it “Resets” and all that future short term memory is lost… would that be a kind of Infinite “hell”?
In such a realization.. say a Once Dead Cop.. might live a “Half Life” suspended in “time” with perhaps less than human rights.. due to be terminated once the case was solved. Suppose he discovered this.. and it would be in his interests to both solve the case.. and yet.. doing so would end his existence… a better title might be ‘Less than Human’
I love the preseason.. imagining .. where are they going with these Sci Fi ideas.. its like the Night before Christmas when the package could contain Infinite Possibilities.. all in a single episode.. or over a season or the entire series.
Hey guys,
I just finished listening to your “preview night” podcast and not surprisingly I found it thoroughly enjoyable. It always good to hear your voices and it’ll fun to have the whole gang back once “Almost Human” starts this fall. I wonder if a new name will be needed for the chat room gang. Bunsen Burners really applied to all things Fringe. How about “Synthetic Sycophants”? Eh, a little negative. “Robo-Listeners”? Nope, not alliterative enough. “Urban’s Urbanites”? Um, maybe not.
I ‘ll work on it and get back to you.
