CCU 53 – Season 2 Episode 9

From Joe:

‘Tis the Mid-Season
I grew up in the 80s. Don’t let my boyish good looks fool you. Christmas was perhaps an extra fun thing in the 80s, because it was the era of toys. TOYS TOYS TOYS. Movies were geared towards selling them. Hell, even some TV shows were! Those who own the old Buck Rogers or Battlestar Galactica toys know of what I speak. Transformers, He-Man, GI Joe, Star Wars, and yes, our beloved super-heroes all had their likeness formed in molded plastic.
This week’s episode, RUNNING TO STAND STILL, made me think back to that time. Probably no surprise, with the number of toy-related traps the wily Trickster sent after our gang. The sheer joy of unwrapping the unknown gift, prying its secrets from shredded paper and boxing…ahhh, those were the days indeed. Part of what I loved about this week’s ep was obviously the return of Mark Hamill. It’s his sheer manic, over-the-top glee in playing James Jesse. Combining that w/ the Christmas Spirit seemed like a natural choice, and to me, it worked beautifully.
It also reminded me of this little feller, one of the first Flash-related toys. Did I have one? You betcha!
