LOVE the photo for this blog post!
Is it just me or did this wait seem extra long because there wasn’t a lot of promotion until recently; last seasons it seemed like you we’re seeing a trailer, even if they used the same clips, every month and news was coming out every other week with various photos going around but these seasons it’s almost nothing in comparison besides the trailers and few articles which really just started where as again last season they were every other week almost versus a month to weeks before the start.
I’m definitely happy “Arrow” doesn’t conflict with “Grey’s Anatomy” on Thursday because I would totally pick GA over A to watch as I’m 14 seasons in Grey’s in comparison to 5 with ARROW.
I definitely care about Evelyne getting off the island because she’s a good challenge for the group I feel and she’s a good physical form of the city’s voice to Oliver – she’ll call him out and make him do better when he’s screwing up. I don’t count Nyssa as a bad guy but for those who do NO KILLING NYSSA!
Personally I’d rather see Renee-Zoe than Oliver-William because I just find Zoe’s plot more likable; I’m hoping Samantha will be alive just injured so William is staying with Oliver but that bedroom scene in the trailer is just a temporary situation not a full time thing as kids on series rarely go well. Let the Renee-Zoe plot show Oliver he can either be a dad fighting crime or he can be a dad but not the Arrow too instead of forcing William into spots just to give him something to do; I’m just not crazy about the William addition.
“Arrow” is the superhero show I’m most looking forward to currently based on promotional stuff; I enjoy “Supergirl” as well don’t get me wrong but just comparing promotional things “Arrow” S6 seems like a more solid season if you will than what S3 might be for “Supergirl”. SG S3 has some good bits based on what I’ve read but again “Arrow” S6 seems to have more good points; things may change given plot handling but as of now “Arrow” has me the most hyped.
YES to keeping Black Siren evil!!! If they go redemption attempt I want Black Siren to use those moments against them and then pull a Harley Quinn line at the end – “I’m not your Laurel!”. 🙂 If they redeem Black Siren I’m going to be ticked I have to say because it’s like trying to make up for Laurel when you just shouldn’t have killed her in the first place – they could have written her out without killing her so no thank you to Laurel 2.0 in this instance.
Here’s an unpopular opinion: I’m tired of military background characters, we’ve got John we’ve got Lyla we’ve got Renee we’ve got Dinah in a sense with police training we’ve got Quentin – I want to see some more diverse backgrounds on “Arrow” such giving us a pure brawler like a Wildcat because if you aren’t a shooter on the series it seems you’re a ninja. Or maybe a Blue Beetle type since Ray is on LEGENDS? There are other ways to train and be a fighter beyond the military. If Diggle’s plot does connect to Dragon it would fit the comments about how there will be flashbacks this season but Oliver won’t be their focus – Dragon could come at Oliver as Flash proposed but when John realizes who it is we see him flashback to the moment before snapping back to current time and they try to figure out how to defeat Dragon.
“The season hasn’t even started yet and I’m already cheating.” – nice one Cammie! My favorite moment was probably the Oliver-Evelyne-Adrian cell scene because you had an solid challenging bad guy, you had “bad guys” with believable motives for their being there, and you had Oliver admitting he didn’t make the best choices which was refreshing to hear with him as until S5 he’d gotten off arguably easy on that front as Felicity and John scolded him but never pushed all the way like he needed. The realism to the season was my favorite aspect for sure! “If not for Anatoli Oliver might never have made it back to Starling City.” – well said Flash!
The season five flashbacks were the best done so far – they fit well with the present moments thus giving a weight to scenes in comparison to last year where they felt more like an interruption than understandable flow.
I could go either way on the opening; if they go the “6 months later” path it could be cool having the character in question mentioned then flashing back to the island to show their time there before snapping back and showing said character intro-ing in present or show a character in the present and something triggers an island flashback and we see how they got off before snapping to the present again. Overall though I do lean towards just opening on the island and wrapping that up as flashing back in present could disrupt the flow of an episode. I wouldn’t want the whole season to be a guessing game either, I’d like to see who’s alive and who’s dead by episode 2 of the season so we have plenty of time for all the other plots as this season sounds pretty packed.
Personally I’m mixed on spoilers as it depend on the plot and series; for example with “Continuum” I didn’t want any spoilers as that show was so well and deeply written it was definitely a case of you want to see it because it’s worth it versus hearing about it early but with “Arrow” it kind of depends – if it’s a plot I don’t care about I don’t mind spoilers but if it’s something I’m loving I might want a few but not all the details.
If Vigilante is going to be a bigger part of the season I’m going to need more on him as he was a bust for me last season due to feeling like a random insertion into episodes instead of a fleshed out challenge to the team.
A good return podcast and I look forward to the coming thoughts! 🙂
