It’s Arrow’s epic 100th episode and it’s the third part of the even more epic CW superhero shows crossover event!
Tune in to hear The Shadow, Podcast Overload and Cammie discuss “Invasion” (5×08). As always we love getting feedback from the Arrow Squad members so please send in your thoughts too!

The Barry-Kara tag team was great! Barry and Cisco kind of made up in the “Legends” section so I’m not sure he’s going bad; I will say I’m surprised John forgave Barry so easily, I thought he would have been upset at least a while longer. I like Shadow’s idea for pacing regarding the episode – more 100th episode and then crossover comes in at the end.
Cammie’s ratings discussion was really interesting. Still mad about Laurel’s exit. A great discussion about the episode! Sara was great with the fights in this episode; as for the fights in the yard, Sara VS Damien and Thea VS Malcolm and their screenshot together was my favorite for that section. Given Eve is my arguable favorite newbie it was sad not seeing her in this episode! I’d rank the crossover episodes as “Arrow” because it was pretty awesome, “Supergirl” as it was a really good episode even though most don’t count it as part of the crossover, “Flash” third because it was good but didn’t really do much with the group (they had moments but it was nothing like “Arrow” or even “Legend”), and fourth “Legends Of Tomorrow” because it had to wrap up so much so fast that it didn’t really allow any one moment to really play like the others…”Flash” didn’t focus a lot on their characters but when they did I felt the moments more.
The transitions for the crossovers were good. Curtis out of the suit is still better than Curtis in the suit currently; oh Guardian…I still have mixed emotions about that plot. “A hero of the mind” is one of the reasons I love Felicity being shown so much on “Arrow”, sure physically kicking butt is cool but it’s not the only way to be a hero just as not every character has to wear a suit to be a hero (see Alex Danvers on “Supergirl”); this debate is one that always frustrates me in fandoms, the mentally talented characters never get the respect they deserve…a perfect example as Kevin may be able to attest to is Lauren Lewis from “Lost Girl”, without Lauren that show would have been over by S2 for sure because everyone would have been dead without her using her “power” to save them yet she sadly rarely got credit from characters and some fans. Just because you’re not the best fighter on the team or you don’t wear a suit doesn’t mean you’re any less valuable to the group. To go back to Curtis for a moment, and this has really happened with Alex on “Supergirl” and for those who watch “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Daisy prime example there, even if you are the best fighter in the group or wear a suit if you have a mental power as well lets see it; its always sad to see a character who starts out with a mental gift (Daisy’s hacking) forget that gift the moment they get physical powers – again they’re cool but writers shouldn’t forget they also have high level mental abilities as well. Alex Danvers can stop you with a well created biological attack just as much as she can with a punch to the face and Curtis is actually more likely to stop you when he’s tech focused rather than trying to knock you out physically. To pull in another example if I was a criminal I’d fear Oracle way more than Batgirl because Joker proved you can stop Batgirl (and any person you can physically touch) pretty easily but you never know how Oracle will get you; Barbara Gordon was way more powerful, if you want to use that term, to me when she was Oracle. An example of a good balance between physical abilities and mental ones I feel is Ray Palmer – he does use the Atom suit but he’s also constantly it seems (I haven’t seen a lot of LOT recently I’ll admit) showcasing his mental skills as well…it feels like he never forgets his biggest strength is his mind and sure he could use the suit more to stop bad guys (the punch the problem away approach) but he’s science it out first person and that’s great to see; host Flash talked about how the newbies needed to mirror Roy Harper’s handling more but Id exclude Curtis from that and suggest he needs the Ray Palmer plan – yes learning how to fight is important but being a good fighter includes knowing how to use your skills and surroundings and a big skill Curtis has is his brain. A great topic!
A good discussion about how to handle the newbies. The banter about guest hosting “Legends” was funny. I love how they gave a way for more crossovers to occur without merging worlds because I’m happy to have “Supergirl” not affected by Flashpoint; I will say when it comes to crossing over I hope they keep it equal and everyone saves everyone equally, no Kara always bailing out the guys and no boys always coming over because Kara supposedly needs help (let’s never forget she kicked all their butts without even breaking a sweat so it needs to be something big for them to come over for a crossover).
Still teary-eyed about Thea’s not wanting to go moment, Willa just nailed it; YES to Brian regarding Wild Dog’s response to Kara, “How dare you talk to her like that!”! I agree about Renee, the actor is good but the character is really annoying at times. Again I loved seeing Katie back, but I’m just not a Oliver/Laurel fan when it comes to “Arrow” because of some of the character actions. Yes Shadow the secret is out, hopefully this reveal went smoother than Caitlin revealing Flashpoint to Cisco did for Barry. A great guest host job by Flash!
I just watched the mid-season finale. I know you guys strive to keep things positive but Cammie, can you break out “Salty Cammie” for just like, 30 seconds? ;). I’d love to hear what you really think about yet another tragedy befalling Felicity – and how after Billy died, everyone hugged Oliver instead of her. As a female viewer, I just can’t believe how the writers are failing her this year.
