In episode 18 of Almost Human Podcast, we review the Almost Human season finale entitled, “Straw Man.” We discuss the backstory of John’s dad, Edward Kennex and the case of the serial killer named Straw Man. We talk about the review board and the interviews that they had with Kennex, Rudy and Maldonado, and what those scenes revealed about how Dorian’s fellow officers feel about him now compared to the pilot episode. We also speculate on whether or not Almost Human will get renewed for another year just like Dorian did.
We also spend time discussing the first season of Almost Human and the various things we liked and didn’t like. We look at how “Straw Man” stands up as a stand alone episode and how it served as a season finale episode. If Almost Human is given a second season, we discuss what we’d like to see happen in that season.

I just finished the Strawman podcast and I have a few thoughts.
First, good analysis both of you – a very thorough revisit of the season overall.
Second, I will defend the ‘process’ of writing and presenting the story as we were told it. The fact that so many questions and plot potentials were offered – and that so few answers were rendered: it seemed inevitable. They had to have about 10 scripts “in the bag” and/or “in development” somewhere along the lengthy ‘production pipeline’ – – before the Pilot episode ever aired. Scripts are tricky to get right in an hour long drama when there is no previous material to trampoline from. Scripts are also tough to rewiki and tweak once they get funneled through the first 5 or 6 executive approval stages. So, the final three or four scripts were probably already conceived and outlined when the Pilot aired. With no viewer feedback to go-to-school on, a new show frequently takes a handful of literary manure and tosses it into the oscillating fan to see what sticks to the wall (or us, the air-breathing fan). That’s why the Yankees left all 6 bases loaded in Game 7 of the ALCS… to see who gets excited about what plotline during the off-season. Wyman felt he only needed to answer one thing this go-round – Papa Keenex.
Three, if Wyman fails to get this renewed, JJ will likely let him go from the Bad Robot stable. Fringe was created by Abrams. Burk and Abrams kept Pinkner on the straight and narrow once Kurtzman and Orci split. Wyman created Almost Human and has been given full run of the corral by Abrams/Burk. The axe falls quick on failed showrunners at Bad Robot. ‘Undercovers’ is a good example. On the other hand, Jona Nolan is likely JJ Abrams bestest BFF right now for POI.
Sidebar: Three of us were cleaning the dishes after dinner tonight and listening to the podcast… the chores became a milk-snorting out of the nose moment with Clint’s Q and A about Ribs (human vs. beef). We had just finished a huge (4 rack) beef rib Sunday night feast that I had been cooking all day. Spouse and D2 stared at me with raised eyebrows about my butcher purchase from 8AM this morn… DocH: “They’re BEEF ribs – I Swear!” [;^)
